What will the Cowboys do Without Dak?

Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott is out with another injury; This time, it’s his thumb. Obviously, this one is not as severe as the broken ankle/foot he suffered in 2020, however, this will still take a toll on the first half of the Cowboys’ season, and Dak’s body.

Dak has been struggling with pretty significant injuries the last two years, and the Cowboys have coincidentally been struggling with their backup quarterback situation. The Spun, “The Cowboys’ plan is to have Cooper Rush step in for Dak Prescott while he recovers from a right thumb injury”. Well, most people never heard of this guy, and maybe he will be like Ben DiNucci in 2020 and make a name for himself.

Also according to The Spun, “Rush is in his fifth season with the Cowboys. He’s appeared in eight games during that time and has amassed 488 yards passing, three touchdowns, and one interception”. “When Rush was asked about stepping up and filling the role he said “Just go do your job,” Rush said. “Just execute. It’s the same plays, it’s the same other guys, we’ve still got everyone else” The Spun. I really like his attitude going into the starting job, and if all plays well the Cowboys may be able to salvage their season this year However, the team is still definitely going to struggle to go into the next couple of weeks. There’s a lot of chemistry to build between the O-line, D-line, Receivers, Tight ends, and running backs and Rush is going to have to work really hard.

As of right now, Dak’s injury is not season-ending, and he’s only out about 6-8 weeks, In a recent interview Jerry Jones said during his weekly Tuesday morning appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said Prescott is not going on injured reserve, because the team now believes he will be able to return within the next four weeks” The Athletic. During his weekly Tuesday morning appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said Prescott is not going on injury reserve, because the team now believes he will be able to return within the next four weeks. I don’t really like this idea, because Prescott could really mess up his thumb again, keep tearing ligaments and tendons, and possibly ruin his still young career If I was in Jerry Jones’ position, I wouldn’t want to risk my franchise QB’s career over an injury that should get healed quickly. Dak is a very talented QB; he’s fast, agile, smart, strong, and elusive. He has all the good parts of a quarterback but his health and proneness to injury hold him back from taking that next big step.

While I’m not the biggest Cowboys or Dak Prescott fan, I hope he does get better, heals up quickly, and has an amazing second half of the season. For, Cooper Rush, I hope he has a great first half of the season and is ready to be a starting QB and dominate, and I hope the Cowboys’ have a pretty good year too. It will be a tough opening first weeks without the starter, but I know their defense will step up and be great. As a saying I think everyone knows, defense wins championships.
