The Mona Lisa is a famous painting we all know and love. Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa between the years 1503-1506. The Mona Lisa was given to the king of France in 1516, and the woman who is known most famously as The Mona Lisa is actually named Lisa Gherardini. The Mona Lisa is the most visited painting in the world and is also referred to as one of the most beautiful paintings in the world. There’s one thing you can’t do with this painting, you can’t buy it at all! It’s impossible to buy, and if you were to buy it, it would cost $650 million. The Mona Lisa is owned by the French government because it belongs to the public, and it’s for everyone to see because it’s a masterpiece. In 2012, 150,000 people signed a petition for the painting to come back to its original home in Florence, Italy, but the French declined the petition. They said, “this painting has moved a lot all over the world so it’s staying where it is.” You can visit this amazing painting in the Louvre, France.
