Micaela Gaither, Editor-in-Chief

Dear Readers,

It’s been a rough year. There have been a lot of losses, and there have been so many days it’s been hard to wake up in the morning. Despite the pitfalls of this year, there has been so much room for improvement and growth. We haven’t the world come to an end in the face of a pandemic.

In my three years of being at the high school, I have not only grown as a writer and person, but I have had the amazing opportunity to see the Advocate grow and change. When faced with the weird scheduling of this past school year, we took it in stride and found a way to continue publications. We started a podcast this past year (give it a listen). Every moment working with the editing team, the writers, and our amazing Editor-in-Chief, Lizzie, has been one to remember.

The community that forms in The Advocate is always changing. I have seen the most unexpected friendships form within the classroom, and there’s this connection between members of the team that seems to just ignite within the class period. It’s crazy, and it’s one of my favorite parts of the class.

I’ve been with The Advocate for the best three years, and I have gotten to go from a writer to editor to next year’s Editor-in-Chief. I’ve seen people grow and improve. I’ve had the chance to improve and become a better writer, and I can’t wait to help others do the same.

Sincerely,

Micaela Gaither

Editor-in-Chief
