Five Nights at Freddy’s is an upcoming American supernatural horror film directed by Emma Tammi and written by Scott Cawthon, Emma Tammi, and Seth Cuddeback.  Five Nights at Freddy’s is produced by Jason Blum and Scott Cawthon. The film’s executive producers are Bea Sequeira, Rusell Binder, Marc Mostman, and Christopher H. Warner. The film’s iconic animatronic characters will be created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

The development of the Five Nights at Freddy’s film adaptation began in 2015, with the involvement of Warner Bros Pictures. Roy Lee, David Katzenberg, and Seth Grahame-Smith were set to produce it with Gil Kenan announced as director and co-writer. After several production delays, the Warner Bros version was no longer moving forward and Kenan dropped out of the project. In March 2017, Blumhouse Productions was announced as the new production company, with Chris Columbus set to direct and co-write. Columbus also left the project, and Emma Tammi was announced to be his replacement in October 2022. The main cast was confirmed in December, while other cast additions were signed in March 2023. The principal photography started in February 2023 in New Orleans and ended in April. The cast for the movie is Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, who will be playing the central security guard at the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa Monroe, who will be playing a local police officer, Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, who will be playing Mike’s little sister, Matthew Lillard as Steve Raglan/William Afton, he will be the main antagonist of the film and a career counselor. Kat Conner Sterling as Max, will be playing Abby’s babysitter. Mary Stuart Masterson as Aunt Jane, will be playing Mike’s Aunt. She is also described as having a villain role in the film or having some sort of relationship with the killer. The plot of the film will be that Mike Schmidt, has just been recently fired and is desperate for work so that he can keep custody of Abby, Mike agrees to take a position as a night security guard at an abandoned theme restaurant called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, but he soon discovers that nothing is what it seems at Freddy’s With the help of Vannessa, a local officer, Mike’s nights at Freddy’s will lead him into unexplainable encounters with the supernatural and drag him into a nightmare where he also discovers the four animatronics mascots – Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, and they kill anyone who is there after midnight. There is also the disappearance of children who went missing in the ‘80s at Freedy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, the police searched Freddy’s top and bottom for them but never found them. There is also a possibility that there will be a second or third film in August 2018. Cawthon said that if the first film was to be successful there could be a possible second and third film, following the events and plot of the second and third game. In January 2023, in an interview on the podcast WeeklyMTG, Lillard revealed that he signed a three-picture deal with Studio 7.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s film is to be released in theaters and Peacock in the United States by Universal Pictures on October 27, 2023.

Watching the FNaF movie was a treat with my family, as I didn’t actually see or watch any trailers, I just went in blind.

I had previous knowledge and assumptions based off of all the previous games, FNaF 1 – 4, SL, PS, and SB.

Of course the movie was going with the first game, but in terms of assumption in lore it shattered my expectations being different but staying close to the source material.

I want to mention some spoilers, but not too drastic ones, the fact that Mike doesn’t want to lose another sibling, that being Abby, because he previously lost his younger brother, Garrett, when he wandered off too far in a forest being abducted by a ‘stranger.’

He sleeps during the job and it keeps making him reach and end up in the same dream reenacting the same moment and times that he lost his said younger brother.

This article was pretty great giving exposition and background on how long the movie had been postponed too, there was talk of a FNaF movie but it never happened up until this year which was pretty nice!
