The Summer I Turned Pretty is a show on Amazon Prime that premiered in June 2022. The Summer I Turned Pretty is a show about a girl named Isabel “Belly” who falls in love with her mother’s lifelong best friend’s eldest son, Conrad Fisher. In the very first few episodes of season 1, we are mainly given context on what the show is going to be about. For example, Belly’s relationship with the Fisher boys and the beginning of their love story. Belly is the daughter of Laurel and her brother, Steven. Belly and her family have been going to Susanna’s (Laurel’s best friend)beach house in Cousins’ Beach ever since they were kids. We see that around the time, Belly turned eight years old, she started developing feelings for Conrad. Conrad is the oldest kid in the beach house, meanwhile Belly is the youngest out of the kids. Conrad was the first boy to teach Belly how to ride a bike, to teach her how to properly waltz, and he was the first boy to show her the infinity symbol. Conrad’s younger brother, Jeremiah Fisher, is the same age as Belly. Jeremiah has always been Belly’s best friend. He was the boy who stayed with belly when she was sick and gave her the nickname Bells.
During the first season, we also see that Susanna and Laurel have been best friends since college. Susanna treated Belly as one of her own kids because she never had a daughter. Susanna had always imagined that one of her boys would end up marrying Belly, although she didn’t specify which boy she wanted it to be; everyone knew it was Conrad.
In episode 1 of season 1, it was the summer of Belly’s 16th birthday when she arrived at her cousin’s beach house as a new person. She arrived taller and “prettier” and in a better sense of style. Once Belly and her family arrive, we first see Jeremiah running out of the house to hug the family. Meanwhile, Conrad was slowly making his way towards Belly when Jeremiah saw Conrad, he immediately went to hug Steven and Laurel, leaving Belly and Conrad alone to talk. We see this is the summer where Jeremiah acknowledged Belly as more than a friend because she got “hot”. Earlier in that episode, Belly had been invited to a bonfire, which the boys were going to, but didn’t want to take Belly with them because they treated her like a baby. This made Belly want to sneak out to go while on a call with Taylor (her best friend). Once Belly got to the bonfire, she met the guys who had invited her there. Then, while Steven was walking with Shayla, a new girl he met. He saw Belly dealing with this guy, and pushed the guy away and immediately told Belly to go home, which Belly said no, which resolved into a big argument in which Belly fell, and Jeremiah came and told Steven to go away. Meanwhile, Belly saw Conrad kissing a girl. We can see that this whole experience has upset Belly, but Jeremiah tells her he was happy she was there, but then left her alone to go talk to other girls, making Belly go sit by herself on the sand until a boy named Cam Cameron came to sit next to her, and they started talking. Everything was going very well with Cameron until Conrad got into a fight with another guy, making Belly go and try to separate them, but instead of accomplishing separating them, she was accidentally punched in the face by the guy Conrad was fighting. Then the cops showed up, and Belly and Cam had to say goodbye. We get informed by the end of this episode that Susanna has cancer and wanted to see her belly in a white dress.
In the next few episodes, the family was talking about how Belly accepted being a debutante for the debutante ball. Belly wanted to go to the ball with Conrad, but he declined because he had gone the year before. After that, in episodes 5-6, Jeremiah and Belly get into a relationship after Jeremiah got jealous when Belly almost kissed Conrad on the 4th of July. Nobody in the house knew Belly and Jeremiah were in a relationship until Steven caught them kissing outside a few days after Jeremiah agreed to take Belly to the ball. By the time Susanna talked to Conrad about taking belly to the ball, it was too late because that is when Jeremiah agreed to take her first. Conrad had been depressed all season because he was the only one, apart from Laurel, who knew about Susanna’s cancer. By the last two episodes, they were getting everything ready for the ball. Once at the ball, Jeremiah did his presentation with Belly and did the first dance, but once the dance was over, he took Susanna’s phone outside to look through it. Jeremiah found out about Susanna’s cancer and didn’t go back inside. Then, the main dance was about to start, and Belly anxiously looked for Jere but couldn’t find him, so she decided to go to the dance alone when Conrad stood up and danced with her. Once Jere got inside, the dance was over, and he went to tell Conrad, but he could tell by Conrad’s expression that he knew, and Jeremiah got mad that he didn’t tell him, and he punched Conrad. Once Susanna separated them, they told her they knew about her cancer, and once they got home, everyone began crying, but Susanna agreed to do the treatment for her kids. At the very last few minutes of the episode, we see Conrad and Belly talk and kiss on the beach, where they get together while she is still dating Jeremiah…
