In this letter, you will hear about some advice I have for you, considering I just finished my freshman year. It’s important to stay focused on yourself, even though it’s easy to get influenced and caught up in how everyone else is doing, and what classes and grades everyone has. Still, you should focus on classes that follow your own personal interests.
- Your first year of high school can seem super scary and overwhelming, but just try to remember that everyone is going through similar emotions.
- Don’t get carried away; stay focused. It’s easy to let the overwhelming feelings take control and push assignments off to later, but procrastination can be one of your worst enemies. The longer you wait, the more you and your peers forget the subject, and the assignments just keep piling up. So stay on top of your work to avoid this situation.
- Staying on top of your schoolwork will also make it easier to stay on top of your grades and maintain good grades. Many people think that your freshman GPA doesn’t matter, but it does. It actually sets you up for the rest of your high school career. While it might sound scary and overwhelming to hear, it’s not something you should be too worried about as long as you stay focused and get all your work done.
- Keeping track of deadlines also helps with keeping upgrades and not getting too overwhelmed. Managing your time by having a place to write down when things are due and when you can get them done is a big factor in not falling behind.
- High school is new for everyone, and being exposed to a new environment with new people can lead to friend/friend group changes. You shouldn’t stress because high school is the perfect time to make sure you are surrounding yourself with people who will help you grow, achieve your goals, and just don’t make this already new and stressful situation even more stressful
- Getting involved with clubs, sports teams, and other school-sanctioned activities can lead you to make more friends who can give you so many more opportunities. If there is nothing that piques your interest, you should consider finding a way to make it happen on your own, because who knows how many people have been waiting for someone like you to come along and start that very same activity.
- Finding something that you are truly passionate about can be a huge part of your high school success, whether this is a career path, extracurricular, or even a cause. Finding what you love to do can set you up for your whole future. This might seem crazy, but depending on what you want to do, you can take classes and become more custom, granting you a greater level of success. Finding what you love can also guide you, give you a greater sense of direction, and motivate you to make others work to make your dream a reality.
- Overall, it’s important to remember to try to keep a good work-life balance (work being school in life is the school social aspects like clubs and sports, and personal time, and time to hang out with friends.
High school is a learning experience for all, so give yourself a little grace as well as some rest, not living. A healthy lifestyle can lead you down a path that’s filled with fatigue, a harder ability to focus, and a reduced ability to retain the lessons from earlier.
