Dear incoming freshman, here is some advice before you enter your first year of high school.
Don’t worry about what other people think of you; it doesn’t matter. As an incoming sophomore, my experience of freshman year definitely had its ups and downs of the year but overall, freshman year was super good for me. Something I wished I had learned before going into my freshman year was not to let other people’s thoughts/looks get to my head. I was so scared of what other people thought of me that I didn’t want to be me.
First, focus on yourself. Yes, be there for your friends and other people, but don’t be their main priority. Just focus on what makes you happy, even if that means losing friends, but real friends will stay by you and make you feel appreciated. Next, make sure you’re working hard. Don’t slack off with homework because it will affect you in the long run. If you stay on top of your homework/school work, you will have nothing to worry about. Step out of your comfort zone and try extra hard. Doing so will make your later years in high school easier and give you advantages over so many other people. Something many people need to know is just don’t care what other people think of you. There will always be people who don’t like you or judge you, but don’t give them a reaction or let them get to you. People are going to want to start drama, but you just have to ignore them and let people know you are mature enough not to give any reaction.
Most people in high school want to get into relationships too fast. Yes, do what you want, but love will come to you when it is the right time with the right person. Don’t keep trying if it isn’t working out; yes, it will be hard to let someone go, but it will be better for you in the long run. Live your life to the fullest. You only live once, so go out and do what you want to do. Don’t let the thought of other people not liking you get into your head. Treat people nicely. Don’t be a hateful person who will not be helpful to you. At the end of the day, high school is a learning experience not only with your classes but with realizing who your real friends are. In high school, you may lose friends and maybe even your closest friends. High school is fun and can also be a horrible part of life. Enjoy it while you can because soon you will be in a graduation cap, graduating from college and wondering why you didn’t do that one thing, or ask out that one person, or why you didn’t try out for the soccer team, etc. Enjoy your childhood years and your youth while you can, because they will go by quicker than you think it would. Some people’s experiences in high school may be good, and some people in high school will have bad experiences.
