By the year 2028, the biggest social media platforms will be TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. For some context, TikTok was launched in 2016, spawning influencers who have become famous for creating dances, making trends, and sharing personal stuff that others can relate to. These trends went around for a while until other people made different ones. Instagram was similar but different from TikTok. Instagram was launched in 2010. This was more of an app where people could send funny or interesting videos to their friends or communicate with them. People could also share their opinions about things with friends, relatives, or the public. Facebook was founded in 2004. Facebook is more of an older people’s app where they just see people’s content about their personal lives and what they are doing. In the future, social media could get better or worse, depending on the types of people and how they use the apps.
Some upcoming trends could be good, like spreading mental health awareness, helping people find resources on how to deal with mental health, how to get help, or how to know if you are having mental health problems. Some examples for future trends that could be bad are spreading insecurities like body shaming other people, and normalizing it. As if talking about it is a normal thing that happens, there could be some comments on people that could cause them to be aware all the time of how they look and their appearance, causing them to have eating disorders and suicidal thoughts, while the people who make the unwanted comments forget and laugh about it. Social media could make young people self-aware about their bodies and how they may look to others, and what other people think about them.
Some of these videos that make people self-aware are made by AI. AI has taken over many social media platforms. AI has caused many elderly and young people to second-guess themselves in believing whether something is real, and it is actually happening, or they are just being fooled by an AI video. For example, old people are more vulnerable, and it is easy to fool them. There could be some false advertising, like a commercial or something that needs to be paid for before actually seeing the item in photos, and once they see the item, they don’t like it, and then suddenly the transaction disappears, and there are no more refunds. AI could scam people even worse in the future because elderly people don’t know what they are agreeing to when they put all their information. AI keeps making money off these vulnerable people, and it can lead to bigger and worse problems in the future. Social media has also influenced many apps that make your life easier like doing your work like ChatGPT and meta glasses causing people to become more dependent, It all really comes down to the intentions of the people that are using the apps and if they are posting bad or good things but while visually looking AI is being predicted to be worse in the future than it is right now.
