It is said that she goes to swim practice every day of the year, just like all-American swimmer Michael Phelps. She started swimming at 6, taking inspiration from her older brother and her mom, who swam in college. Ledecky has a family history of athletic individuals, with her uncle, Jon Ledecky, being a businessman and co-owner of the NHL team New York Islanders. On December 15, 2025, Ledecky set and now holds the world record for the women’s 1650-meter freestyle with an outstanding time of 14:59.62. With her training, she has stated in interviews that she is very proud of where she is right now, and she hopes to keep this up. Ledecky has talked about her training being very exhausting. She does intense workouts amounting to 25-30 hours weekly. She does 10 swims and 5 dryland workouts every week. She has said that she incorporates weights within her workouts, which help her increase muscle mass. She works hard both in and out of the water with her insane workouts. A normal day for her consists of waking up at 5 am to eat, swimming at 6 through 8 am, going straight into dryland practices from 8:30-10 am, she has breakfast at 12, takes a nap, has her second swim practice at 2, then ends the day at 4 and recovers, eats dinner, then sleeps. She does this almost every day to keep up her stamina and athleticism. Typically, she swims 6,000-8,000 yards every practice, which amounts to 4.5 miles every single day for each morning and afternoon swim practice. Ledecky speaks about her technique a lot, stating how she swims at a 2- kick rhythm and a gallop and pull method. These methods are what she usually does in sprint events, as they would tire anyone out in a long-course event because of the excessive breathing that the method includes. Ledecky genuinely loves swimming and hopes to continue it in her future. With how she’s doing now, many believe she has so many more record-breaking times coming her way in her swimming career. Katie Ledecky is known as the fastest female swimmer in all of history and still holds that title to this day.
