Noah Kahan, born on January 1st, 1997, is an American singer/songwriter. Kahan grew up on a small tree farm in Vermont, where he first gained an interest in music. His mother, Lauri Berkenkamp, who wrote parenting guides, taught him how to write, while his father taught him how to play the guitar. When Kahan turned 8 years old, he began writing songs. In the years later he became much bigger in the music industry after signing a recording label with Republican Records in 2017.
In 2018, Kahan released his first single, “Hurt Somebody,” featuring Julia Michaels. This song marked the beginning of Kahan’s fame by landing him his first appearance on any US chart, as it landed at #24 on Billboard’s Hot Rock and Alternative chart. Shortly after this, Kahan released Hurt Somebody, the EP. Months later came Kahan’s first studio album, Busyhead. This album featured 10 tracks and was a successful debut in his career.
After the debut of Busyhead, Kahan released Cape Elizabeth, an EP consisting of five songs. This was released in 2020, after Kahan wrote it in only one week. The EP revolves around a failed love story taking place in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. A year later, Kahan released his 2nd album, I was/I am. This album had 10 tracks, three of which were previously released as singles. Although the album wasn’t a total flop, it had no hits. Despite this, the album was still relatively well-received.
Starting before the release of I was/I am, Kahan began posting TikToks teasing his soon-to-be hit single. 2 years later, Kahan finally released Stick Season, the single, on July 8, 2022. Shortly after this, Kahan released Northern Attitude, followed by his third studio album, Stick Season. The album was released on October 14th, 2022, and debuted at #14 on Billboard 200. Then, on June 9, 2023, Kahan released the deluxe version of this album, Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever), which consisted of another 7 tracks additional to the previous 14.
More recently, Kahan announced his upcoming album, The Great Divide, which is set to be released on April 24, 2026. The first single for this album was released on January 30, 2026. The Great Divide will be a 17-track album, being his largest album yet, besides the deluxe version of Stick Season.
Overall, Kahan’s career has been incredibly successful and is only growing larger from here. Kahan has collaborated with a variety of artists, including Hozier, Lizzy McAlpine, Zach Bryan, Gracie Abrams, and more. He’s been looked at as a friend by artists, including Kacey Musgraves and Olivia Rodrigo, while even opening for her on her GUTS tour. Olivia Rodrigo has also covered his song, Stick Season, and he covered her song, Lacy. Other covers he has done include this is me trying by Taylor Swift, Feeling Whitney by Post Malone, The Story by Conan Gray, and Boots of Spanish Leather by Bob Dylan.
