Malcolm McCormick, also known as Mac Miller, was born January 19, 1992. Mac Miller was born into a loving home and is super close with both his parents and his little brother. Mac and his mother, Karin Miller, had a very close emotional bond. Mac has stated in many interviews that his mom is his best friend. Mac and his father, Mark McCormick, have a very strong father-son connection, as his dad was the one to teach him about music and instruments. Mac and his younger brother Miller McCormick had a very supportive relationship, as Mac was always there for his brother in every way. His childhood was full of love and encouragement. The way he was treated during his childhood helped shape his openness and creativity.
Mac Miller began learning to play various instruments from his father at a young age. By the time he was 15, he knew how to play 4 core instruments: piano, drums, guitar, and bass. He also released his first song when he was 15, on sound cloud uner the name Easy Mac. He started doing music because he had a deep passion for music. He came up with the name Mac Miller from his initial name, Easy Mac, Mac coming from his childhood nickname from his grandpa, and Miller coming from his brother’s name. Mac Miller started gaining fame in 2010, 3 years after he started making music. The song that started gaining him fame was The Spins and Knock Knock. Now his most popular songs are Self Care and Small Worlds. Mac went on 3 major tours in 2011; his first tour was the Blue Slide Park Tour, in 2015, his second tour, GO: OD AM Tour, and his last tour was in 2016, The Divine Feminine Tour.
Mac Miller passed away on September 7th, 2018, when he was 26. His passing occurred due to an accidental overdose of Cocaine, Fentanyl, and alcohol. Mac was going through very real challenges with Mental Health and substance abuse. Around the time of Mac Miller’s passing, he felt a sense of loss for the music world and for his fans. Mac Miller left behind a legacy of honesty, vulnerability, and creativity in his music, which was often about love, struggles, and self-discovery.
I love Mac Miller’s music because his music has always been something my mom and I bond over, as she was the one who introduced his music to me, and would always play his music whenever we were in the car together. Another reason why I love Mac Miller’s music is how he words his lyrics and forms them into songs.
