
Olivia Rodrigo is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She began her career as a child and rose to prominence for her leading roles in the Disney+ series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (2019-2022). She began appearing in commercials and the direct-to-video film An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success (2015). Shifting focus onto her recording career, Rodrigo signed with Geffen Records to release her 2021 single “Driver’s License,” which peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks and raised her to international prominence. That same year, she released her debut studio album “Sour,” which spawned her second number one song “Good 4 u” and the simultaneous success singles “Deja vu,” “Traitor,” and “Brutal.” Overall, Rodrigo has released three Billboard Hot 100 number-one albums and eight songs with multiplatinum certificates from the Recording Industry Association of America.
Early Life
Olivia Isabel Rodrigo was born on February 20th, 2003, at the Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta, California, to Jennifer, a school teacher, and Chris, a family therapist. Rodrigo is an only child and grew up in neighboring Temecula. She was born half deaf in her left ear and is half-Filipina and identifies as Filipino American. Her parental grandparents and great grandparents emigrated from the Philippines, and her family follows Filipino traditions, including the preparation of cuisine. Rodgrio grew up listening to her parents’ favorite alternative rock music, such as bands No Doubt, Pearl Jam, The White Stripes, and Green Day.
Acting career
In 2015, at age 12, Rodrigo made her acting debut portraying the lead role of Grace Thomas in the direct-to-video film An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success. Rodrigo attended Dorothy Mcehimey Middle School in Murrieta for a year until moving to Los Angeles after landing an acting role in Bizaarduark in 2016, while she starred as Paige Olvera for its first three seasons.- She was homeschooled from then until her graduation in 2021.
Guts Tour
On the opener to Rodrigo’s 2023 album, GUTS, Rodrigo juxtaposes Folksy, Facetious calm in the verses with enraged pop-punk in the refrain as she lays out society’s double standards for young women before unleashing a piercing wall.
Olivia Rodrigo kicked off her GUTS Tour on February 23rd, 2024. She says, “When we play ‘All American Bitch” Rodrigo tells Billboard, “There’s a part at the end of the song where I ask the audience to think about something that pisses them off and then tell them to scream about it when the lights go off.” At her last concert of the Guts Tour, Rodrigo took off her silver GUTS rings in front of the crowd as a farewell and gave them to a fan at the barricade. “It’s definitely erotic for me,” she says, “and I hope it is for the audience as well.” While Rodrigo’s fans worldwide found the space to release their pent-up energy, as well as their excitement about one of the decade’s biggest new superstars.
