Conan Gray, born on December 5, 1998, is a singer-songwriter from California. On August 15, 2025, Gray released his 4th studio album, Wishbone. The album is a 12-track pop album consisting of two singles.
The album starts with “Actor.” The song depicts what the whole album is meant to be about. “Actor” is a breakup song about someone hiding behind a performance and basically faking the entire relationship. The song was chosen as the opening track to show that the album was more about the breakup than the relationship between Gray and his previous lover.
The second track is called “This song,” which was also the album’s first single. “This song” was released on May 30, 2025, along with a music video starring Corey Fogelmanis. The song talks about being in love with someone who presumably loves you back, but hasn’t told you yet.
After this comes “Vodka Cranberry,” the third track and second single. “Vodka Cranberry” talks about the numbness and heartbreak you gain after reuniting with an ex-partner. The song was released on July 11, 2025, as well as a music video that perfectly depicts the idea behind the song.
“Romeo,” the fourth track, could quite possibly be my favorite song on the album. The song touches on the story of Romeo and Juliet in saying that his ex is “no Romeo.” “Romeo” talks about despair after a breakup, and that the person you were with is actually not the person you thought they were.
Track 5 on Wishbone is different from the other songs on the album. “My World” is very much a self-empowered song, a walkout song. The song talks about owning your own life rather than letting someone else take control of it. The meaning behind this song is shown through the lyric, “It’s my world and it’s my life.”
In opposition to “My World,” track 6 gives off a completely different vibe. “Class Clown” is a slower-paced, sadder song about covering up your true feelings with humor. The song speaks about growing up in a bad environment or growing up sad, yet hiding it because you’re meant to be the “funny friend.”
The 7th track is called “Nauseous.” “Nauseous” is, again, a slower ballad. The song uses the lyric, “Your love is a threat and I’m nauseous” to voice that being in love kind of makes him sick. He talks about how he was abandoned as a child and struggles with commitment due to that.
After “Nauseous” comes “Caramel,” the eighth track. The song voices how Gray feels about his past relationship. He talks about how, over time, bad memories can fade into your mind as something that looks good. Although in reality, you’re just being manipulated to a point that you forget what actually happened.
“Connell” comes next as the 9th track on Wishbone. The song describes heartbreak over someone who doesn’t care about you as much as you care about them. It digs deep into feelings like you’re in a one-sided relationship.
The 10th track on the album is called “Sunset Tower.” The song is a description of how it feels when you still think about someone even after they’ve moved on. The song is sort of Gray being in denial and not wanting to face the truth that his ex moved on without him.
The 2nd to last track on Wishbone is called “Eleven Eleven.” The song refers to the angel number 1111, which, typically, when people see that number, they wish on it. Conan writes the lyric “I still wish for you at every eleven-eleven,” which adds up perfectly to the lyric “11:11’s they all hear your name.” in “This Song.”
Finally, the last track of the album is called “Care.” This song, like “Connell,” talks a little bit about denial. It describes pretending that you’re over it, but still caring about the relationship. The song mourns the person he was with while still respecting that they left.
