Steve Nash Leaves Brooklyn

After a disappointing start to their season, even with stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant staying healthy, the 2-5 Brooklyn Nets, who are the third-worst team in the eastern conference, announced that they have parted ways with head coach Steve Nash. This adds even more to Brooklyn’s sinking ship, which recently just had Kyrie Irving suspended and drowning in controversy after tweeting a link to an antisemitic film. Nash was the head coach for the Nets for a little over 2 seasons, where he led them to a 94-67 record, and a winning percentage of .584. In an official statement, Nets’ general manager Sean Marks said: “We felt it was time. It was certainly trending that way, and to be quite frank the team was not doing what it is supposed to be doing. We’ve fallen from our goals.”

Right now, the Nets’ assistant coach Jacque Vaughn will be Nash’s temporary replacement, however, there are looking for a full-time replacement. According to ESPN’s Adrain Wojnowski, the Nets are finalizing a deal with The Boston Celtics’ former head coach Ime Udoka, however, this may worsen the team’s reputation even more. Less than a week from training camp, he was suspended by the Boston Celtics for multiple policy violations, but not by the NBA. An investigation done by an outside law firm found that he had an intimate relationship with a female member of the team’s staff. The same woman also accused him of making unwanted comments toward her. In his first year as the head coach of the Celtics last season, he led the team to a 51-31 record. They were also the eastern conference champions, but they lost to the Warriors 4-2. Udoka has been coaching for about 8 years and was an assistant coach for the 76ers and the Spurs.

The team is in a very tough situation right now because, not only did they make a big coaching change, but as mentioned previously, their star point guard Kyrie Irving is out ‘indefinitely’. This means that Durant is going to have to carry most of the load offensively. Although last year they picked up Ben Simmons from the 76ers. He hasn’t been much of a help though because he’s only averaged 5.6. He hasn’t scored more than ten points in a game this season. In their most recent games, they took a loss to the Bulls 108-99. Durant put up some very solid numbers in that game he had 32 points 6 assists and 9 rebounds. After that, they got a blowout win against the Wizards 128-86. Durant had another great game with 28 points 11 assists and 9 rebounds nearly a triple-double. As of now, the nets have improved to a 5-7 record, and they are now 11th in the east. Going forward it is going to be interesting to see how the nets as a team and organization can push on through all the drama and controversy. It will also be interesting to see what players step up their performances.
