Have you ever heard of an interesting moth? It’s called the Luna Moth, but they are also called the American Moon Moth. Luna Moths are one of the biggest moths in North America such as in Eastern Texas and Southern Florida. They are mostly found in forested areas, and the only time they come out is at nighttime. Although these moths aren’t rare they are to humans. Did you know that if a Luna Moth comes up to you, it means a new beginning in your life? However beautiful they look, please don’t touch it once it will fly away, so just look at it from a distance, and be proud of yourself for witnessing a beautiful moth like the Luna Moth. Now it’s time for the life cycle of a Luna Moth. It’s sad and interesting about how they live their life.

When a Luna Moth hatches from the egg, it will become a Luna Moth caterpillar for 3-4 weeks then it will settle on a leaf and become a cocoon. Then once the Luna Moth gets out of the cocoon the Moth will live up for a week. After a month in the cocoon, the moth will be free from it and become a beautiful Luna Moth. An adult female and male Luna Moth don’t have a mouth, their only purpose is to reproduce. They do not eat in the morning. The Luna Moth will find a tree to dry its wings throughout the day once a female adult Luna Moth has found its spot to lay her 200 eggs. The eggs will hatch in a week then the female moth will soon die after. The best month for them to hatch is in April, and they defend themself by making a clicking sound and rearing up its head then shooting out a liquid when a bat comes near them. Now you know all about a Luna Moth, this moth is truly amazing.
