AM is an album by the band Arctic Monkeys. It was released on September 9, 2013. It is not very different from the other albums by this band, since they seem to have a consistent music style. This, however, is my favorite album by them. The songs are all very catchy, and overall just make me feel very happy. It is their 5th album, and arguably one of the best that they have released. I truly enjoy all of their songs on this album, they are very similar yet all of them are unique. 

My favorite song on this album is “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High.” In my perspective, I think of it as two people stuck in a toxic relationship. The lyric “Why’d you only call me when you’re high?” is very frequently used. I believe that is showing that they don’t talk unless one of them is under the influence. The song has a very depressing tone if you listen carefully, but it is disguised by a very fast beat in the back. The song itself describes either being exes or in a toxic relationship like I stated. Some lyrics of the song such as “I need a partner, well are you out tonight?” point towards it being about exes. It shows that they only talk, or use each other, when it is convenient for the occasion.

Another one of my favorite songs is “Do I Wanna Know?” I believe this is about a one-sided love or toxic exes again. That is a pattern I noticed in this album, it seems to be about bad luck with romance. In this song, one of the lyrics is “I dreamt about you nearly every night this week” This relates to the idea about one-sided romance, the song is being told from one person’s perspective so it makes sense that it would talk about how they feel. However, I feel like this lyric might go further than many people think. It could be seen as a rather annoying thing, having someone on your mind every night. 

Lastly, my third favorite song is “I Wanna be Yours.” I’m not quite sure why, but it just holds a special place in my heart. It gives off the vibe that this person is willing to do anything just to be with them. To me, this just seems like one last desperate attempt to show their feelings. This song is much slower than the ones I previously mentioned. This song is also very soothing to listen to, the beats are lower. One of the lyrics is “If you like your coffee hot, I can be your coffee pot.” This is just showing that they are willing to do anything to be with them. Even if it’s something as small as coffee, they want to be something they need. The song mentions things like this throughout the song, talking about how they want to be things just to be needed by the person.
