Have you realized how much superheroes and villains have changed throughout the years? In the beginning, the movies were made for kids but now they seem to be more geared towards adults who can understand the deeper meaning in the movies. It seems like all of the movies are just taking us back through the hero’s life and then flash forward to a random fight with their arch-nemesis.

Jack Napier (The Joker) made his debut in the first Batman comic book, which he originally was supposed to die at the end of. In the beginning, the Joker was very easy to hate, we didn’t know his backstory. We only knew that he fell into a tank of chemical waste and that’s why he is pale and has green hair. But his backstory is so depressing that we almost forgive him for the way he acts and the things that he does. He grew up unloved and abused by his stepfather but then later got adopted by a woman struggling with mental illness. He was a struggling comedian pressured into committing crime while trying to support his pregnant wife. After his wife died, he went insane and turned into the Joker we know today.

Joker wasn’t the only one who has changed, his arch-nemesis, Batman, has changed quite a bit as well. By now you may have realized that Batman is known for not killing his enemies, but in the earlier comics, he did kill his enemies and in a very brutal way. This made him appear more terrifying than heroic to the younger readers so thankfully they have changed it, making his personality more likable to the reader. With each movie, the story seems to be getting darker but this has become a sort of a staple for Batman. In the beginning, it seemed to be more light-hearted but now the writers have brought more of the sad pasts from the characters, making these movies heart-wrenching thrillers.

Ironman is typically who people think of when they think of the word “superhero” but he hasn’t always been so super. Throughout the years, Ironman seems to keep gaining more and more random powers but he hasn’t always had such abilities. In the beginning, the only powers he really had were that he could leap, run super fast, and super strength. He later gained frost breath, flight, and x-ray vision, some of which are arguably his most recognizable powers.

Obviously, the movies look more realistic because the camera quality has become better throughout the years but CGI (computer-generated image) plays a big part in how believable it looks. Take Hulk, for example, he used to be Lou Ferrigno painted green with green-dyed hair but now his whole character is CGI. Also, Marvel has a 13 billion dollar net worth so we should expect many more movies to come from them.

As you can see, superheroes have changed a lot since their beginning.
