Congrats, Vikings! We’ve reached the end of the school year. This year went by in a flash and was quite eventful. From intense sports events to beautifully performed plays, to eye-opening assemblies, the 2018-19 school year here at FGHS was definitely one that we won’t forget.

We started off this fall as usual, with our dedicated Vik Crew leading orientation day to help the freshmen with their transition into high school. Our boys soccer team made it to the semi-finals, and students had fun and high spirited football games to keep them busy on Friday nights. The homecoming dance was Greek Mythology themed and was a night filled with lots of dancing, quality time with friends, and holes punched in our cafeteria wall. The theatre program performed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and before we knew it, Thanksgiving break rolled around, giving students some time off before the beginning of winter.

Winter came in the blink of an eye, and already we were shocked at how fast the year was moving. The first semester ended, and students were given a fresh start for the second half of the year. Our winter dance was canceled, sophomores won lip-sync, and our wrestling, cheer, and swim teams went to state to compete with athletes from all across Oregon. Jam The Gym, our biggest basketball game of the year, was superhero themed, and plenty of students showed up dressed as their favorite heroes to cheer on their peers. Our theatre program put on another wonderful production, this time taking on one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies, Macbeth.

Spring came, as well as the excitement for the year’s end drawing near. Our last sports season of the year kicked off with baseball, softball, tennis, and track. Our equestrian team went to state, and their drill team got first place, so they will be attending regionals this June! FFA had their annual plant sale, and students gathered at the stadium the day before prom for an eye-opening assembly about the consequences of drunk driving. Our summer nights themed prom then took off in mid-April, and theatre put on their last production of the year, A Company of Wayward Saints. Unified theatre put on a show called, “This is Home,” a play to spread awareness of teen homelessness. We had our annual drum off assembly, and as the end of the year approached us, seniors prepared to graduate and underclassmen planned out their classes for next year.

This year was full of memories to cherish, quality time with peers, fun sports events, and so much more. To the seniors, congratulations! We wish you the best in the next chapter of life. As for freshman, sophomores, and juniors, we’ll see you again in the fall for another wild year.
