It’s winter sports season, which means it’s time for lots of great sports such as basketball and swimming. Though there are so many awesome sports going on, I decided to shed some light on one of our sports teams that doesn’t get as much recognition: our wrestling team. The team began practicing together on November 12th, and have since then been working together to prepare for meets and tournaments. Forest Grove’s wrestling team is committed to not only improving as athletes throughout the season but also building a bond that unites everybody as a team and a family.

I interviewed Coach Beatty, the head coach of the wrestling team, and asked him questions regarding the team, plans for the season, and his role as the head coach. He stated that his goal for this season is, “To make sure that they improve. I want them to continuously get better and reach their own milestones.” Beatty also claimed that the wrestling team’s best quality is their work ethic, saying, “They surprise me every day on how well they respond to things.” Finally, when asked what his favorite thing about coaching the wrestling team is, he responded, “I like seeing people developing and getting better at a sport that they enjoy. That brings me a lot of joy.”

As for the remainder of the season ahead, the team has many events to look forward to, such as duals, tournaments, and the possibility of making it to the state tournament. It’s clear that our wrestling team has a season full of hard work ahead of them, and they’re only getting started.
