How-to Get Involved

Have you ever wanted to get involved in a school activity or wanted to try something new? Well luckily FGHS has lots of opportunities for to you to get involved. We have lots of great clubs at our school that we would love for you to join! Examples of clubs we have are Poetry Club, where you learn how to read and write poetry, as well as having the opportunity to share your poetry at Poetry Slams. Speech & Debate is another one of our excellent clubs where you learn different styles of speech and how to present them as well as learning to debate in different approaches as well! Fashion Club is another wonderful club we have where you design and make clothes and learn about fashion and some of its history. Those are just a few of the many clubs that we have at Forest Grove High School. We hope you checked out the rest of our clubs at Club Rush on Thursday and Friday and signed up for something that interested you! Even if you didn’t see any clubs that caught your eye, you can always make your own club! All you have to do is find an Advisor/ Teacher, find two other people besides yourself to be in the club and go to Mr. Kirkman in Room 1218 and ask him for a form and you’re good to go!

We have other activities that you can be involved in as well, such as joining our lovely arts program. Band, Orchestra, Choir, and Theatre are some options for you to join so if you’ve been thinking to try something new, why not play an instrument, join the choir or try out for one of our school plays? We have 3 plays throughout the school year: a fall, winter, and spring play so consider auditioning — you never know if you like something until you try!

Another school activity that we offer at FGHS is ASB and Renaissance which are both leadership programs. ASB is an elected/appointed student body that has a lot of different positions that you can sign up for and be elected for. They help plan dances, assemblies, rallies, and other events to make FGHS a fun, safe, and welcoming environment. Renaissance is a leadership program run through Jostens, and they help make sure our school is as welcoming and good-natured as possible through various events and publicities. They help make Jam the Gym possible! You don’t need to be elected for Renaissance but you need to fill out an application to be accepted.

FGHS has a great sports program, too! Fall sports are currently in session but we have winter sports and spring sports that you can sign up for when the season starts.

Being involved in your school’s extracurriculars opens opportunities for it to look strong on college resumes but also to meet new people, find new hobbies you enjoy, and having an overall great high school experience! Hope you get involved, because it’s the time!
