Hello to FGHS Freshmen.
Welcome to our High School, where we accept all identities and genders. I hope you’ll grow to enjoy this place as much as I have. This place has a ton of stuff for you to choose and exhibit interest in.
We have sports for those who are active and physical, clubs covering different topics to suit your preferences, I.E. Poetry, Swim, DnD, Deca, and classes to help you find out or pursue what YOU want to do after high school! One thing I’d love to communicate to any of the uncertain Freshmen out there is don’t be afraid to ask questions to your advisory teachers and counselors regarding your classes. Communication is key if you want to live your school year to its best without having to put up with any unwanted or unnecessary stress.
This isn’t elementary school, let alone middle school anymore. We’re beginning to enter the real world one step at a time; learning how to communicate for yourself and letting your voice be heard will be crucial for here and your future life to come. Students are beginning to learn how to drive and bring themself to school or whatever they see fit.
Another bit of advice that I’d like to share is don’t let yourself fall into social/peer pressure. Even if you’re new to the high school and going in blind without any social relations with anyone, it’s up to you to hang out with whoever. However, you shouldn’t go out of your way to prove your worth to your potential future fake or bad friends.
It’s important when making potential friends to find someone who you can reach out to regardless of the circumstances, someone you can talk to 24/7. Acknowledge their personal space, and be the friend you so desire. Having the burden of being friends with people who do nothing but rely on you isn’t a great long-term friendship, especially when you’re not benefiting positively without going out of the way to do something, paying money, doing assignments, or asking for favors.
You need to take care of yourself and avoid associating with people who require stuff from you. Find genuine friends, start with a bit of small talk with someone who piques your interest. You don’t have much to lose just by trying to get to know someone, and if you can’t click with a peer of yours, that’s okay! You can talk to many other people who’ve attended this school either for very little or for very long!
While you’re meeting new people, explore what you’re interested in. Delve into all sorts of future career paths, but most importantly as a new Freshman, don’t forget to have fun for this first year! You have three more years to go afterward, so you should make the best of your first!
TLDR; Take care of yourself, make friends, and have fun.
