I have wanted to be a veterinarian for quite a while, most of my life, actually. Usually, as a kid when you say you want to be something, it’s just a phase and you end up forgetting or just finding something else to do. I want to be a vet though and I am going to try my best to become one.
I really want to be one for many reasons. First, I love animals and honestly, I care more about animals than humans and I want to save as many animals as I can. I want to help them if I can and I think being a vet would just be a good fit for me and I feel like it would be fun.
However, there is a lot that goes into being a vet. You need to go to college for 4 years for an undergraduate degree with 4 years of veterinary school to earn your DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). If you want to be a vet in the U.S. you need to pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination. The lowest a vet can make in the U.S. on average is $72,360 and the highest is $201,440 according to ZipRecruiter. It also depends on how good you are and how long you’ve worked for a company. It also depends on how many hours you work and how many days you work a week. Also, your pay will be different depending on your boss and state.
I try my best in school because I want to be successful and one of my biggest fears is not having enough money to support my family, so obviously I try my best in school and I wanna be the best I can so I can be successful in life and everything. Something about being a vet is you usually work long hours depending on what kind of vet you are but most work very long hours. There are so many different kinds of vets, some include zoo vet, emergency, companion animal vet (smaller animals dogs, cats, etc), laboratory, animal medicine and so many more. Another thing about being a vet is you need to have good communication and people skills, and you need to have a lot of passionate feelings for animals.
Of course, all jobs have good things and bad things about them and ups and downs but I think a vet will be a very good fit for me not only do they make a lot of money but I’ll hopefully be pretty successful. I will be having fun at work and being able to work with animals all day every day. The only bad thing about being a vet in my opinion is there is a lot of school, you will most likely have to put animals down and you’ll have to tell and witness people going through it. I think that is the only reason I may not wanna be one. However, I think I would be able to do it and get through the school and have to deal with putting animals down and having to break the news to them.
