San Antonio, Texas has been shot at and threatened with gun violence.
According to Texas Public Radio, On September 7th two Gregory Luna middle schoolers, a 12-year-old male unnamed student and a 12-year-old unnamed male student, were arrested for threatening the students in Northside ISD (Independent School District). The threat was made on a Facetime call between one of the shooters and another student before shooting up their campus. Information from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the victim on the call reported the threat to Northside Independent School District staff. The student was arrested on Saturday, while the unnamed student was arrested just a day after, on Sunday.
It is said that 3 firearms were shown along with body armor. The shooter threatened the students and said they were going to shoot up the school. “The initial threat was made on Saturday during a FaceTime conversation, where the suspect allegedly displayed photos of firearms, made a threat to shoot the victim, and “shoot up the school.” Two of the guns that were shown were fake, and they seized one of the guns which was a .380 caliber pistol with an extended magazine.
While the investigation continued Bexar County Sheriff said “It’s vital that parents speak to children about the serious consequences attached to making threats.” MySA wrote about this incident and said that the student was doing it as a “trend” that spread across states. “This is the second 12-year-old to be arrested in San Antonio this week, and part of a trend across the state.” The second middle schooler, a 12-year-old Unnamed student, got arrested on Sunday after rumors of him threatening to shoot up multiple schools in San Antonio.
Allegedly the student posted a photo of an assault rifle on Instagram and then listed seven other schools in San Antonio, along with the dates he was going to attack them. The schools were a variety of middle schools and elementary schools. “The schools included Tafolla Middle School, Sarah S. King Elementary, an undetermined Idea Public School campus, Alonso S. Perales Elementary, Ramiro P. Estrada Achievement, Rhodes Middle School, and Abraham Kazen Middle School.”
The boy was apprehended by many law enforcement and was charged with seven counts of felony terroristic threats. Since the two boys are both minors I am unable to find how long they were arrested for, however, adults would be in jail for about 2-5 years.
To prevent threats from happening, I believe parents should teach their children how to behave in and outside of school. The children also shouldn’t have a phone until they are in high school unless their phones put a parental lock on the phone. I believe this incident scared not only the students and parents but also the whole town. Situations like these don’t blow over easily. Most parents would possibly make these kids start homeschooling. I think these two students are getting punished for the threats they made, and I hope they never do something like this again.
