Coco is a fantasy movie involving singing, dancing, and a long journey that the main character, Miguel, must take to pursue his dream of being a musician. He faces many struggles throughout the movie such as his family not allowing him to pursue his dreams of being a musician because they want him to be a shoemaker, which is his family’s business. The reason why they don’t allow him to sing or play music is that at the beginning of the movie his family members all believe that his great-great-grandma, Mama Imelda, was left by her husband Hector in favor of his music career. However, by the conclusion of the movie they find out that this was not true. Hector was actually betrayed and poisoned by his best friend, Ernesto de la Cruz because he wanted to go home to his family and leave his music career behind. His best friend didn’t like the thought of that, so he poisoned him.

At the beginning of the movie, Miguel is fighting to convince his family to let him pursue his dreams of being a musician, but no matter what he tries to do they turn him down. They don’t allow him to be around any musicians, to touch any instrument, or sing. He ends up going to a festival where all of the musicians in his town go to become the best musicians they can be, but he wasn’t able to perform because his grandma had destroyed the guitar that he had made. He then ends up going to Ernesto de la Cruz’s memorial site with his guitar because he thought that de la Cruz was his great great grandfather. He then decides to play a note which catches the attention of the police, causing them to arrive shortly thereafter. Then he finds himself to be invisible to others in the real world and able to be seen only by those who are dead. He is confused until he runs into his family members who have passed away and they try to help him get back to the real world.

Towards the middle of the movie, Miguel experiences the land of the dead, but he soon realizes that he doesn’t have that long to get back to the world of the living because the longer he stays in the land of the dead the more he turns into one of them and will eventually be prevented from going back to the land of the living. The only way he is able to return is if one of his family members gives him their blessing, which his great-great-grandma gives him. He then realizes that he must return because when one of his family members gives him their blessing they are able to put a condition on it that he must follow in order to return home, and his great-great-grandma’s condition was that he could no longer play music. During his return, he runs away shortly to run into his actual great grandfather Hector, although he doesn’t know it’s his great grandfather. They then set out on a journey to help Hector get his picture up onto the memorial because if he doesn’t Hector will disappear because once you are forgotten in the land of the dead you then are given a certain amount of time before you disappear.

At the end of the movie, Miguel meets Ernesto de la Cruz at his party and soon finds out that he is not his actual great-great grandpa and that he betrayed Hector. Ernesto de la Cruz tries to trap him and Hector but they end up escaping. Ernesto de la Cruz has a performance that he throws every Day of the Dead that Miguel and Hector sneak into to try to stop him from destroying Hector’s picture. They end up stopping him and Ernesto de la Cruz and the land of the dead is shown who he really is. Miguel then makes it back to the land of the living and saves Hector and tells his parents what actually happened and they then allow him to be a musician.

Overall this movie was a 10/10. It had a great plot and many events that were carried out throughout the movie. The singing was amazing along with the animation and it was all put together so well. Though there were some sad parts, there were also many exciting moments that kept you on your toes. In the end, I think this was an overall great movie and is definitely something I would recommend to others or watch again.
