“Come From Away”: My New York Broadway Musical Experience

Come From Away Broadway Tickets 125x125

My experience in New York felt like it was almost out of a movie, completely incredible and new. I saw more there than I ever thought I could have comprehended. My favorite memory there was the touching “Come From Away” Broadway Musical about the tragic event in our history; 9/11. This Musical was a breathtaking one hour and forty minutes, with no intermission. The theater was beautiful and glowing gold, filled with heavenly murals from the floor to the ceiling. I was on the second floor and it had an amazing view. The price of the tickets wasn’t that bad for being on Broadway street in New York, at only $45 a person.

“Come From Away” is a beautifully written story by Irene Sankoff and David Hein is about the people who landed in Gander Canada right before 9/11 happened. All planes had to land immediately when the threat and highjack took place. They took shelter in Gander and were surprised by the hospitality of the natives. This musical teaches you many perspectives and strong lessons. You will sympathize with these characters’ stories so quickly, you’ll need to get ready to have your guard taken down. This story many tear-jerking moments.

This musical really pulls your heart in different directions for many characters, expressing topics that are very relevant today. If you hate spoilers, stop reading now! Throughout the production, you hear and understand different perspectives of the people who landed in Gander Canada. These scenarios will capture your heart and show you the beauty that still exists in the world today.

Two men who landed there don’t know if they can be proudly in love or if they have to hide their love and be safe about it; A man who is racially profiled at this time due to his religion and race learns to conquer through; A woman pilot fighting for job equality; A mother who loses her hero of a son; An African American man being astonished by actually receiving hospitality there. All of these people learned true moral lessons of human rights.

The amount of feeling and chemicals being released into my body was phenomenal. At the end of this show, I was shaking with emotion and deep thought. This was such a strong humanitarian, heart melting musical. A must have on my bucket list, and hopefully yours.
