Dance Team

This year has been one of triumph and learning, as well as marked a year of change for the Forest Grove Dance Team. Forest Grove has only completed their Fall Category Competition Season for this year so far and has still yet to launch into the ever anticipated state season. At the beginning, the marvelous coaches Erika Myrick and Brandy Nicole pushed the team very hard in order to prepare it for the looming competition season. There were definitely struggles, such as the unfortunate loss of part of the team, and the new challenge of instructing and choreography for male dancers, who in the history of the vikettes have never been official members of the team. Despite this, the team tackled the season pushing each other to do their best all along the way, with phenomenal leadership from captains Kaitlyn Hiett and Viry Lopez and co-captains Ashley Coon and Tiffany Young. The Vikettes placed 1st in Hip Hop in their very first competition at David Douglas High School, and 3rd in Pom taking home two trophies. Continuous improvement as the season progressed rewarded the team with the opportunity to qualify for the Category Championship competition in Gresham. This was a big deal for the team because the invite would be the first time since the  Championship comp’s formation that they qualified to attend, not just in one but both of their dances! Despite qualifying for both, the Vikettes decided to focus on Hip Hop and competed with the top teams in the state and took home 6th place win! The team rounded the season off with West Coast Elite State Championships, which was a much more exclusive competition, and ended up placing 3rd in an extremely competitive Pom division and took home the 1st place State Champions trophy and banner for Hip Hop.
