On July 1st 2003, Tate Rosner McRae was born, In Calgary, Alberta, Canada. You may have heard her name before and know some of her hit songs like ¨Greedy¨ or ¨Exes¨, but before she was an artist, she was a dancer. When Tate was very young her family moved to Oman, Canada for her dad, Todd McRae’s job, who works as a lawyer for oil and gas companies. While they lived in Oman, Tate began dancing at the age of six. Two years later at eight years old, the McRae family made the move back to Calgary, where she began to train more intensively. She was dancing and competing with Drewitz Dance Productions, until age eleven where she began to train at her mom Tanja Rosner’s dance company, YYC Dance Project. Later in 2013, Tate was awarded Mini Best Female Dancer at the Dance Awards in New York City. After gaining some recognition from winning at The Dance Awards, she became a brand ambassador for American dance shoes manufacturer; Capezio.
In 2015 at the Youth America Grand Prix, she won silver in her solo and bronze in her duet at eleven. Because she won she got the opportunity to have a two week scholarship to Berlin State Ballet. Later that year, for the second time, she was awarded Best Female Dancer at The Dance Awards (TDA) but this time in the junior category.
Later In June of 2016, Tate auditioned to dance for Justin Bieber and won the opportunity. She danced at \ Bieber’s concert in Calgary for his Purpose World Tour during his performance of Children. Later that year Tate also took part in the 13th season of So You Think You Can Dance
Competing for ¨America’s favorite dancer¨ as a non American. She was mentored by actress Katheryn McCormick. Throughout the competition, Tate advanced further than any other Canadian. She ended up finishing 3rd on the finale. This was a big part of her career and part of the reason she began to grow to fame.
April of 2017 She was featured on Dance Spirit Magazine, which is a big deal for dancers because it focuses on the teen and young adult dance world, providing content that is modern, accessible, and relevant to their experience. In 2017, Tate also started making Create with Tate on Youtube showcasing her singing and songwriting skills. Her first ever song One day blew up and now has over 40 million views. 2017-2019 she continued to not only dance but also upload and release independent singles at the same time. 2018 seemed to be a more relaxed year for Tate after she was rising to fame, figuring out what she wanted to pursue. In Las Vegas she was awarded, for the third time, Best Female Dancer but this time in the teen division, making her the only dancer to win all three categories from mini to teen.
In 2020, Tate broke out with her debut EP, All the things I never said, which included early tracks that hinted at her confessional, emotionally raw style, and showcased her ability to bridge her dance background with her growing identity as a singer-songwriter. She continued by releasing ¨You broke me first¨ that became a global anthem, especially resonating during the pandemic. It went multi-platinum in many markets and catapulted her into international recognition in the music world.
Following that, in 2021 she released the EP, Too young to be sad, continuing to explore themes of heartbreak, youth, and emotional vulnerability. In 2022, she dropped her debut studio album I used to think I could fly, which broadened her sound, combining pop, dance pop, and bedroom pop elements. The album performed very well, charting strongly in multiple countries.
In 2023, Tate leaned further into polished pop with THINK LATER, her sophomore album, led by the hit single ¨Greedy¨, which became one of her biggest chart successes globally. Then in 2024, she released So Close to What, her third studio album, which solidified her place in mainstream pop. The album debuted number 1 on the Billboard 200 and included singles like Its ¨OK Im Ok¨ and ¨Sports Car¨ that performed strongly in Canada, the US, and internationally.
Alongside her recording work, Tate’s public profile has kept growing: her live performances, her fashion moments, and her presence in media have all built up. By 2025, she’s been recognized with award nominations, and her growth in streaming numbers, chart success, and global reach mark her transition from rising star to established pop artist.
