Fearless by Lauren Roberts takes place right after the second book, with Kitt asking Paedyn to marry him. Kitt wants to marry her because Ilya needs the resources from the surrounding kingdoms, and the only way they will allow that is if they have an ordinary queen. Paedyn begrudgingly agrees, but the whole kingdom is not going to stand for this because she just killed the king. The kingdom agrees that if she goes through a special set of trials to prove her worth as a queen, they will accept her.
In Paedyn’s first trial, she had to walk through the scorches to the sanctuary of souls, and her task was to find the lost crown of the first queen of Ilya, which was buried with her. Paedyn begins her journey, and at first, it’s relatively normal, but it’s starting to get dark, and she starts to rush, trying to find the crown going in and out of caves. She comes across bats, and they start attacking her, and she scrambles to find a way out, then finds a trap door in the floor. She gets excited because she knows it’s where the queen is buried. The trapped door breaks under her weight, and she falls into a coffin. She gets excited and breaks it open. She blindly feels around till she finds the crown. She gets out and is almost free of the darkness, but then she meets three figures. The three figures start to fight her for the crown, and she kills the 3 of them. She travels back to the castle with the crown, and in front of everyone, she hobbles into the throne room, bloody with the crown in hand.
The next trial she has to cross the shallows, which is a giant ocean that is rumored to have a giant monster in it, and no one has crossed it for a decade to the other kingdom, Izram. Kai joins her on her journey across the shallows to protect her. The journey goes good until they are on their way back, and suddenly the boat stops, and there is crashing and loud noises, so they go check it out, and it’s the monster everyone says is in the shallows. It is a snake-like creature that is bigger than their boat and is ginormous. Everyone starts trying to kill this creature, but they can’t; it’s too strong. That is, until Paedyn runs up to it with a sword and stabs the creature in the eye, and it slithers back into the water as they sail back to the ground. The whole time on the boat, Kai and Paedyn were together, and they were just falling more in love with each other every day.
Meanwhile, Kitt is kind of going insane, but Paedyn’s third trial starts, and she has to fight someone to the death, and although she doesn’t want more blood on her hands, she just wants it over. She starts to prepare for her fight, but in a turn of events, it is Kai she has to fight. She does not want to fight him, but he starts fighting her. It’s a fight to the death, and she kills him. She passed out and woke up thinking it was a dream, but it wasn’t; he was dead, the love of her life. She begins sobbing and then hears his voice. He isn’t dead, they hug, they kiss, blah blah cute reunion. What had happened was an illusionist had made it look like it was Kai, but it was Mak, who we met in the novella, and he was dating Adena.
Kitt and Paedyn get married, but then, before their trip around the kingdom, they find out some shocking news, and guess what, Kitt and Paedyn are siblings. Later that night, Paedyn, Kitt, and Kai all talk, and it ends in Kitt and Kai fighting, and Kai slips and stabs Kitt. Kitt dies, and it is very sad. Paedyn and Kai end up getting married and have a little girl named Kit in honor of Kai’s brother.
