I have always loved the band, Fleetwood Mac. I have listened to their music since I was little, and I love the emotions that are portrayed in each song. All of their music has so much texture to it, and there is never a song to skip. When I usually love a band or artist, there are always quite a few songs or albums I’m not a big fan of, but all of Fleetwood Mac’s music is worth listening to. I was recently going through all their released music and came across the songs that they released from the Rumours album that were live recorded. I instantly became obsessed with the sound of the live songs. They all have a little bit of a different vibe from the original track, so I enjoyed listening to a different sound from them. One of my favorites was “Oh Daddy” because I had never really listened to that song before, and I realized how great it was. I loved the slower, more sultry sound. The next song that stood out to me was “Gold Dust Woman.” This is one of my all-time favorite songs. The intro starts with the cowbell instrument, and it’s a very cool sound. They extended the instrumental part, which made the song so much better. “Go Your Own Way” and “The Chain” are two classics from the band, and “The Chain” sounds so raw and intense. The live versions of the songs tend to have an extended jam session somewhere in the song, and it’s just so good. If you’re into really appreciating the sounds of music, I highly recommend checking out the live versions of your favorite songs.
The reason I decided to look for these songs is that I was getting pretty bored with the usual music I listened to, and I wanted to change it up. Lately, I’ve been listening to 90s R&B like Mary J. Blige, Sade, and Lauryn Hill. I also have been listening to Guns and Roses and The Pixies. I feel like Fleetwood Mac is a perfect mix of the music I like; they have a rock side to them while also having some more emotion in their songs. I feel like sometimes it’s hard to branch out and listen to different music, so a good way to have some change is listening to live versions of music. I also think it makes you more of a well-rounded fan when you know all of an artist’s less popular tracks.
I would love to have the opportunity to see Fleetwood Mac live, and listening to their live music gives me a little taste of what it would be like to see them in concert. The band has not been reunited for a while, and I don’t think I will ever get to hear them live. Listening to their live albums will probably be the closest I get to a Fleetwood Mac concert, so I try to experience what I can.
