Anyone But You is a comedy/romance about a girl Beatrice (who goes by Bea) played by Sydney Sweeney and Ben who is played by Glen Powell. The movie is about them both at a wedding party in Australia.
The movie starts in a coffee shop in Boston where they both live, although they do not know each other yet. Bea goes to the coffee shop to use the restroom but the worker she is talking to is stubborn and says it’s for customers only. She tries to buy bread but has to go to the end of the line. The line is super long so she asks if she can just have the key and that she really needs to pee but the worker ignores her. Bea then starts talking about the law and says since they serve food they have to let people go to the bathroom, the worker says no and it is store policy. Bea is still trying to get her to give her the key when Ben says “Honey I’m bout to order” and starts to pretend they are married. Since he paid for the coffee and bread she wanted because it was “grilled cheese night,” he asked for the bathroom key and the worker gave it to him since he paid for stuff. He gives it to Bea and she goes to the bathroom while Ben waits with the tea she ordered and her jacket.
In the bathroom, she calls her sister and tells her she found a guy and talks about how he flirted with her and bought her tea. The bathroom key then gets stuff on the handle to turn on the water and sprays all over her pants so she tries to dry it with the electric hand dryer but it’s super hot and she yells “HOT.” Ben hears and asks if she’s okay through the door and then she makes up an excuse of why she yelled while she finishes drying the water spot.
Bea says thank you for the tea and while she is leaving Ben notices she has toilet paper stuck to her shoe. He calls out for her and she says “So you’re gonna ask me out now,” and he lies and says yes.
After that, they introduced each other and then walked around Boston to a park and talked the whole time. They ended up going back to his apartment and making grilled cheese sandwiches with the bread he bought from the coffee shop. He makes a comment about being a lawyer while Bea is studying to be one in college, and she admits that she doesn’t know if she wants to be one. She then realizes she has never said it out loud and has never told anyone. They then fall asleep while talking and the next morning she tries to sneak out while she thinks he’s asleep but he is actually awake.
Bea leaves Ben’s apartment and calls her sister again and talks about how great he is and how they had so much fun. While she’s doing that, Ben is still at his apartment and his friend comes over to hang out and they talk about how Bea actually stayed over. Bea goes back to his apartment and on her walk up to the apartment she overhears Ben saying that she couldn’t get out fast enough and she’s a nothing and a disaster after she hears this she walks away.
6 months later Bea is at a party with her sister Halle and her new girlfriend Claudia. Ben is friends with Claudia, and Claudia’s brother is Ben’s best friend, Pete. They call over Ben to introduce Bea and Ben, not knowing they already know each other. Ben says “Hi” and Bea just says “Yeah.” Her sister then realizes who he is and Bea and Ben walk away and get into an argument. Bea then tells Ben she is now engaged to her ex Johnathan.
The next scene is Claudia and Halle’s wedding invitation. It’s a video of Claudia and Halle getting married and Bea and Halle’s dad Leo saying “We can’t do it without their friends and family” and they all say “In Sydney Australia.”
Bea and Ben end up getting put on the same flight but Ben is first class and Bea is regular. He goes and finds Bea and she tells him she and her fiance aren’t together anymore. After this, they go through a love-hate relationship throughout the whole movie, and by the time they are in Australia everyone knows they love each other but Bea and Ben say no every time. Bea and Ben’s exes are both there because they are a part of the family still. Ben thinks that he is still in love with his ex. Bea and Ben fake date to get Ben’s ex jealous. In the end, Ben realizes he loves Bea and wants to be with her and not his ex.
