Fleetwood Mac is a band that evolved into an Anglo-American pop-rock group. In 1977, their album Rumours was released. It ended up being one of the most popular and best-selling albums of all time.
This band was created in 1967. The original members were Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Peter Green, and Jeremy Spencer. The latest band members include Danny Kirwan, Christine McVie, Bob Welch, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham.
Fleetwood Mac started to become successful in 1974 when they all made a move to the United States, and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham made their multimillion-selling albums Fleetwood Mac and Rumours. Rumours is the 10th highest-selling album of all time and about 40 million copies have been sold around the world since February 1977. This album has always been popular.
Around 1979, the group started their solo careers. Stevie Nicks started an album with Bella Donna in 1981 which featured singles like “Edge of Seventeen” and the Tom Petty duet “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” Lindsey Buckingham broke the Billboard Top 10 with his single “Trouble”.
Together the band produced Mirage in 1982 before Lindsey Buckingham’s departure from the band. Although there were a lot of changes throughout the band, the rest of Fleetwood Mac other than Lindsey Buckingham reunited with each other to perform at the inauguration of U.S. Pres.
Four years later, the main band members reunited for The Dance. In 2003, Say You Will brought together John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks. This was their first time in 16 years making a studio album. Christine McVie rejoined the band around 2014, which then made it their most popular tour since 2009.
Fleetwood Mac used to be considered not cool, but their popularity picked back up around 2020 during lockdown when a video went viral on social media with the song “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac in the background. This put Fleetwood Mac back on the billboard’s Hot 100 taking out Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga. Fleetwood Mac has existed for over 55 years and still gains popularity and fans to this day.
Fleetwood Mac has plenty of viral or popular songs and albums but the most popular songs include “Dreams,” “Rhiannon,” “Silver Springs,” and “The Chain.” These songs have grown in popularity over the years and still do so.
In August of 1970, Christine McVie joined Fleetwood Mac and became a keyboardist and vocalist for the band. She not only was featured on Fleetwood Mac’s Kiln House, but she was also the creator of the cover art for the album. Jeremy Spencer was replaced with Bob Welch because he decided to join a Christian cult. He never ended up rejoining Fleetwood Mac.
Along with that, Kirwan’s relationship with the band was strained by his problems with alcohol. One day Kirwan was backstage and had a fight which then made him decide to break his guitar. The band ultimately decided that he was fired and Kirwan was then replaced with Bob Weston. The band unfortunately fell apart after Christine McVie’s death.
