John’s Album of the Month: May
August 14, 2018
ALBUM: MADVILLIANY
ARTIST: MADVILLIAN
GENRE: RAP
RELEASE DATE: 2003
This being one of the most prolific underground rap albums of all time, of course I had to put it on the list. The amazing production from Madlib is complimented very well by MF DOOM as he floats over each song while he raps about the dastardly deeds that he is taking part in. This is a brilliant album that has stood the test of time and I highly recommend checking it out
ALBUM: MILO GOES TO COLLEGE
ARTIST: DESCENDANTS
GENRE: PUNK
RELEASE DATE: 1982
The phenomenal debut album by Californian punk rock group descendants is definitely one of the best albums I had the pleasure of stumbling upon this month. Crazy guitar riffs and wonderful lyrics about teenage angst. I highly recommend this for anyone who is going through a weird patch in their life at the moment.
ALBUM: THE PURPLE BUNCH
ARTIST: THE DIPLOMATS
GENRE: RAP
YEAR: 2005
This thing is insane. I don’t even know what to say about it. He literally samples anyway you want it by Journey on the song “Any way you want it”. And the closing track is a brain numbing freestyle by Jim Jones and Cam’ron. Good stuff
ALBUM: PINKERTON
ARTIST: WEEZER
GENRE: ROCK
YEAR: 1996
Easily one of my favorite albums of all time. It is one of those albums where I can listen to the whole thing start to finish and never skip a track. Perfect album for all of you angsty teenagers out there, listen to “Why Bother” and “Falling for you”. Thank me later.
