The Hunger Games is a 2012 action/adventure movie about a girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in a world where everyone is separated into 12 districts. Once a year, they play the Hunger Games, which revolves around people killing each other to entertain the Capitol. The movie starts with Katniss and her friend Gale sitting in a field talking about the games because the games are about to start. It then cuts to Katniss buying a pin for her sister Prim and going home to give it to her. When Katniss gets home she gives the pin to Prim to comfort her because it is her first year having her name in the reaping bowl. Katniss and Prim head to the auditorium where they stand in groups with people their age and wait for the tributes to be called. When Effie, the person in charge of the reaping of District 12, reaches into the bowl, she calls out the name Prim. Katniss volunteers because she wants to save Prim and then Effie calls the male tribute, Peeta.
After the reaping finishes, Katniss and Peeta are put in a car and driven to the train which is going to the capital to train and prepare everyone for the games. On the train, they meet Haymitch who is their mentor due to winning a game years prior. Haymitch tells them that neither of them has the greatest chance of winning and that they should just focus on getting sponsors. Katniss is taken to a room where they shower her, wax her hair, and get her ready for the parade where all the tributes are being presented. Peeta and Katniss made a great impression because Cinna, their stylist, made them clothes that lit on fire so now Katniss is being called “the girl on fire.” The next couple of days they train and then they have to do interviews where Peeta says that he has a crush on Katniss to get more sponsors. The day after the interviews is the day that the Hunger Games started. Katniss and Peeta are sent off to a plane where they get tracking chips put into them and then all the tributes are put on a little stage and a timer for 10 seconds is counting down the time for them to run and get their supplies.
When the timer goes off Katniss runs to get a backpack and is almost killed by Clove, a tribute from District 2, because she threw a knife at her. Luckily, Katniss dodged and was able to run into the forest and hide by climbing a tree and staying there all night. The next day, Katniss is exploring the arena and gets too close to the border so the game makers start a fire. Katniss tries to run but a branch falls on her leg and burns it. Eventually, she runs into a river but her happiness doesn’t last long because the careers, a group of well-trained tributes, spots her and chases her so she climbs a tree. Cato tries to climb the tree but is too heavy and the branch snaps. They decide to camp out and wait for Katniss to come down. Katniss looks over at the tree next to her and sees Rue who tells her to throw these bees on them because if they sting you they can kill you. When the bees fall, they kill one member, Glimmer, but the rest of the careers get away. Katniss also got stung but not enough to kill her so Rue takes care of her until she gets better. After a little while of talking, they come up with a plan for how to kill the careers. Turns out the plan isn’t very good because Rue ends up being killed by Marvel, another career member, who gets killed by Katniss right after. The rest of the careers survived so Katniss ran away and ran into Peeta who camouflaged himself into a tree branch and was hurt so she took him into a cave where they kissed to get sponsors that would send them medicine for Peeta. A day after Katniss found Peeta, the game makers announced that in the center of the arena, they put bags with something that everyone needed so Katniss decided to go get the bag. When she got there Clove was there. Clove tried to kill Katniss but Thresh, another tribute, saved her and Katniss was able to run away.
When Katniss got back to Peeta, they used what was inside the bag and rested until nighttime when the game makers announced that there would be a dinner in the center of the arena, but it turns out that they were the dinner because they set dog-like creatures on them to lead them to Cato, who was the only other tribute left alive. They fought Cato together and were able to survive. Both Katniss and Peeta were crowned the victors of the 74th Hunger Games and were sent back to District 12.
All in all, The Hunger Games is a good movie about fighting to survive and that you should watch if you are interested in a suspenseful movie.
