The Menendez brothers are two brothers, Lyle Menendez and Erik Menendez, who killed their mom and dad. They are both currently sentenced to life without the possibility of parole or life in prison. Some people think they deserve it and some think that they don’t. Lyle was born on January 10, 1968, and Erik was born on November 27, 1970. They are both married now.
There is a documentary on Netflix called Monsters, with Cooper Koch playing Erik and Nicholas Chaves playing Lyle. They killed their parents in 1989 with shotguns in their Beverly Hills home. They went through the back doors so that the parents didn’t see it coming. They killed their parents because they were emotionally, verbally, and sexually abused as kids and into their teenage years, and fired the guns because they were scared that their parents would kill them first if they didn’t.
They lied to everyone first about the murder but got caught soon after. The brothers wanted to get away with it and told most people it was a mob or someone like that since he was very well-known and a very rich businessman, only telling a few people the truth about the murder. They told a therapist the truth but the therapist recorded it and told his ex about it all. Their therapist was telling people all the information the brothers were saying. They didn’t lie about the abuse, however.
The dad would make them do sexual acts since they were kids. Since they were kids they, didn’t know it was wrong, so they would do the stuff they were asked. They soon realized that if they put cinnamon in their dad’s coffee or food it would make his semen taste better so that it wasn’t as bad when they would be forced to do sexual acts. They eventually realized it was wrong, but were still forced to do it. Their mom would also do inspections on their genitalia to make sure they didn’t have any signs of AIDS, such as blisters. When they would insist they can do it themselves, she would say she has to. She started doing these inspections after the brothers’ dad started saying that he was having sexual intercourse with another man.
However, his mom suspected something was wrong and asked if anything was going on with him and the brothers. Obviously, he declined and came up with an excuse about how he would never have done it because his dad would do stuff to him when he was younger. We know he was, but at the time, she acted like she didn’t know, but she assumed something was up.
The brothers have now been in prison for almost 35 years. The case may be getting reopened after their attorney, Gascon. He announced about a week ago that he was recommending that the sentence should be removed since both of them were under 26 at the time, and instead get only 50 years in prison. This wouldn’t change the conviction, only the sentence. This has not happened yet but it’s almost official that it will reopen soon. They hope to get them out by Thanksgiving but the process usually takes a year and they would have to talk to the governor Gavin Newsom as well as California residents.
