Ted Bundy was a serial killer in the late 20th century. Bundy was most well known for being a rapist and necrophiliac who has admitted to at least 30 murders. However, his actual victim count might be over 100. Ted Bundy’s “media fame” stemmed from his good looks and charms. His full name is Theodore Robert Bundy, and he was born November 24th, 1946, and died January 24th, 1989.
During the investigation of Bundy’s childhood, he initially said he had an “uneventful” childhood where his family and friends usually backed him up. However, if you take a closer look at it you can see he was a “socially awkward” kid who would cross the line of morality. When Bundy was younger he thought his mother was his sister and when asked why, he said, “I don’t really know I just assumed we were brother and sister who had a 20-year difference.” Bundy’s behavior could be disturbing at times, for example on one occasion his aunt woke up to her toddler nephew placing knives next to her sleeping form.
Bundy graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in psychology in 1972. When Bundy was attending the University of Washington he fell in love with a wealthy girl named Diane Edwards. Many of his victims resembled her.
Ted Bundy’s victims from Washington and Oregon are Karen Sparks, Lynda Ann Healey, Donna Gail Manson, Susan Elaine Rancourt, Roberta Kathleen Parks, Brenda Carol Ball, Geogann Hawkins, Janice Ann Ott, and Denise Marie Naslund. His Utah, Colorado, And Idaho victims: Nancy Wilcox, Melissa Ann Smith, Laura Ann Aime, Carol Daronch, Debi Kent, Caryn Eileen Campbell, Julie Cunning, Denise Lynn Oliverson, Lynette Culver, and Susan Curtis. His Florida victims were Margaret Elizabeth Bowman, Lisa Levy, and Kimberly Leach.
Rhonda Stapley is one of Ted Bundy’s survivors. On October 11th, 1971, Stapley was waiting for the bus to take her back to university when Bundy approached her to ask if she needed a ride. She said yes, and he then took her to Big Cottonwood Canyon and repeatedly strangled and raped her until he turned his back and she ran for her life, escaping by jumping in a nearby river. Stapley stayed silent about her story for 40 years and finally told someone in 2011.
Margaret Elizabeth Bowman and Lisa Levy were Bundy’s first victims when he got to Florida on January 15th, 1978. He was “filled with an undeniable urge to kill.” He broke into a Florida state sorority where he went to the bedroom of 21-year-old Margaret and bludgeoned her to death with a piece of firewood. He then went into 20-year-old Lisa’s room where he beat her, strangled her, tore off one of her nipples, bit deeply into her left buttock, and then raped her with a bottle of hair spray.
Kimberly Leach was Bundy’s last victim. Kimberly Leach was a 12-year-old girl and Bundy reportedly “only killed her because the police were on his tail.” He kidnapped Kimberly around her school in Lake City, Florida on February 9th, 1978 as she was on her way to meet her friend to walk to class together. Two months later, her body was found 35 miles away in Suwannee River State Park.
In July 1979, Bundy was convicted for two of his murders and was given the death penalty twice, for which he spent 9 years on death row appealing his sentence. In 1980, he received another death sentence for his final murder. On January 24th, 1989, Bundy was executed by the electric chair.
