The last edition took us through the surface-level information provided in the series. However, there is far more than what is seen just by watching the series. A lot of context and information is derived from hidden captions and things that are inferred from them, so, in this edition, I’ll do just that: walk through the important conversations had in the captions and what they mean. Then, I’ll try to provide a comprehensive timeline and story summary from all that we’ve uncovered.
Starting with one of the most important transcripts in the series, the video “Full Face Alan Makeup Look!” Daisy decides to do Alan’s makeup, giving him a full makeover. The captions tell us a different story, however, as the captions read “I can’t stop thinking about the future. About our future. There will be hardships. But I just know that they’re meant for greatness. All he can think about is nature, while I’m ensnared in nurture. Will the seeds i now sew grow into the fruitful plant of my dreams? Will it be a boy or a girl? Will future generations remember it? Will they keep up the legacy? I don’t care about tomorrow. Today. Tonight, I’m safe, and I’m happy. We’ll figure out the future in the future. For tonight, just hold me, and know that we’re okay. I can’t wait to meet you. …I feel sick. …Disgusting… Is it normal to feel this ill? My legs are wet.” This internal monologue seems to be coming from Daisy’s mother, whose name is later revealed to be Rose. The transcript shows Rose questioning what the future entails for her child, a child that is not yet born, but seemingly coming incredibly soon. The transcript also reveals Rose’s thoughts about Curtis, Daisy’s father, stating that she notices his fixation with nature, while Rose trusts nurture more. The video, and by proxy, the transcript ends with what seems to be Rose going into labor, the moments before Daisy’s birth.
The next transcript follows up on the previous and shows the event of Daisy’s birth. The video, “I made dinner!!” hides this transcript under the ruse of a simple cooking video. The transcript consisted of Rose and Curtis’s conversation right after Daisy was born: “It’s too much blood… I’m not going to survive.” “No you’re not going to die, stop talking like that!” Nearby crying “is that- Did it survive?” “Yes it lived, I did it!” “Oh no, I’m losing so much blood… Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it very well.” “Honey, please stop shaking me. That won’t make me survive.”
These quotes show Rose’s final moments right after Daisy’s birth, and thus, the breaking point of Curtis. The next transcript highlights the depravity and introduces another character. Curtis is at his lab when a coworker, named Lithop, questions him about his mental health, stating “Everyone back at the lab is worried about you” and eventually saying “What you’re doing is wrong, and the fact that you can’t see that is disturbing to me” the response that Curtis gives is hostile; “I find it really funny you think I care what you have to say.” At the climax of the transcripts, Lithop threatens to take Daisy away from Curtis, saying, “I’ll go. And I’m coming back with Child Protective Services,” only to be met with an ominous response; “…No you won’t.”
The following transcript paints an even more ominous picture of Lithop and Curtis, seemingly from the perspective of Lithop, it starts with Lithop questioning “Jesus Christ Curtis! What did you do to my legs?” just to be told that “Getting Child Protective Services is going to be hard now? Eh?” showing Curtis’s sadistic side. Curtis kidnaps Lithop to keep her from taking Daisy away from him, and later mutilates her and uses her body in experiments to try and create life.
Overall, These transcripts allow just enough information to put together the full story and timeline, as well as analyze the double layer of symbolism throughout the entire story. All of this will be done in the next (and hopefully final) edition. I apologize for the multiple parts, as this story is quite complex and a comprehensive overview is quite a challenge.
