Art the Clown’s horrifying return to the big screen creates more controversy throughout social media once again. Terrifier 3 picks up five years after the events of Terrifer 2, with the survivor Sienna trying to live her life even though she still has a lot of PTSD. Sienna had just gotten out of a mental hospital to come home to her aunt and uncle for Christmas but her PTSD just begins to get worse when she suddenly sees Art the Clown everywhere she goes. Art the Clown begins to unexpectedly kill many residents of Miles County as they all peacefully go on to sleep on Christmas Eve.
I went to watch this movie the day it came out and there was a rhythm of gasps in the crowd because of how much gore and guts people couldn’t handle in each scene. Many people in the crowd would begin to peek through their hands, while others clapped and laughed over bloody body parts hitting the screen. It was way more nasty than horror classified in my opinion. Art the Clown’s brutal methods of killing have sparked heated debates between horror fans and critics. There is also so much controversy on what parents have to say about their children watching this film and how their children feel about it. Some parents say that it’s a good adult movie that’s true to Art the Clown’s style, while other parents believe that this is very inappropriate for 18-year-olds and younger to watch this extreme film. On the other hand, many teens are big horror and gore fans so they believed they stepped up their game on this film. They also think it’s overhyped and people were overreacting by throwing up.
Although this movie had too much gore for me, it was beyond creative with the kills, effects, and humor. Yes, there have been other horror movies with a Christmas setting but this one is more of a Christmas slasher. A movie that has enough based on Christmas but is not necessarily a movie you could watch anytime during the year.
During this film, there’s a specific scene that stood out to many people in the crowd: the shower scene. No kills in Terrifer 3 could top the bedroom kill in Terrifer 2 but, oh my, this one could be close. The graphic violence in this scene was insane, the classic chainsaw kill but with a BIG twist. Many fans of gore actually felt disturbance during this scene making their stomachs somewhat upset. Another scene that made viewers and even actor David Howard Thorton, playing Art the Clown, upset was Art the Clown tube feeding live rats to one of his victims towards the end of the movie. David mentioned how that was pushing his limits.
Overall, Terrifier 3 is a gruesome, thrilling horror ride perfect for the spooky season! Can you handle its intense gore and disturbing scenes? Go see Terrifer 3, it’s out in theaters now! (P.S. Make sure not to eat before or during).
