If you like a good story about sweet, young love, you should watch the movie Flipped. Flipped is a 2010 romance/comedy following Juli Baker and Bryce Loski. Juli, who one day in the second grade sees Bryce’s family moving into the house across the street, immediately develops feelings for Bryce and decides to go over and try to start a conversation with him. Bryce does not feel the same as Juli. He is immediately annoyed and scared of her, so he decides he will never like her.
Over the years, Juli keeps trying to get Bryce to like her but it always fails and makes him hate her even more. Juli, being the stubborn person she is, doesn’t seem to realize that Bryce has never liked her. When they reach the seventh grade, Bryce comes up with a plan, he decides that if Juli thinks he is dating the most liked girl in the school, Dana Tressler (who Juli hates), she will leave him alone. Juli being Juli, thinks Dana is bothering Bryce and gets super jealous. A couple of days into dating, Dana was told by a boy who liked her that Bryce was just using her to get Juli off his shoulders so she broke up with him.
One day when Juli was up in her favorite tree, she was told that the tree would be cut down and she needed to get down but refused. She was sure that if she stayed in the tree long enough they wouldn’t cut it down, but once a crowd started to form, her dad found out about it and went to get her down. Juli had been written about in the town newspaper where Chet, Bryce’s grandfather, read about her and asked Bryce about her. Chet ended up helping Juli fix up the outside of her house and became great friends with her.
At one point, Juli stopped liking Bryce, meanwhile, Bryce had just started liking Juli. It created a whole mess between their families that led to Bryce’s mom planning a sit-down dinner where they solved all the drama going on, but Bryce’s dad still had a problem and took it out on his family. At their school, they had this thing that had to do with some boys being “basket boys” which means that they all line up with a basket full of food to share with the girls that bid on them. Bryce, being a basket boy, thought that Juli would bid for him but she ended up bidding on the boy that went up before him, while Dana bid on him.
Bryce, who saw Juli with the other guy, got jealous and thought “What can I do to get her attention?” and came up with the idea of trying to kiss her. Spoiler alert! She did not like that. She ran away, locked herself in her room, and wouldn’t come out. Bryce would knock on her door every day while she ignored him, so he asked her dad if he could plant a tree for Juli to replace the tree that had previously been cut down. That’s when Juli realized she still liked Bryce.
Juli had gone outside and started to help Bryce plant the tree. At the end of the movie, it doesn’t tell us if Bryce and Juli are dating, but it does imply that they are because it shows them holding hands and smiling at each other.
