Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, better known as DaBaby, is an American rapper who was consistently releasing mixtapes from 2014 through 2018 but he didn’t end up getting his mainstream attention until his Blockbuster hit “Suge” Released in 2019.
“Suge” Is a song about how rap is starting to pay the bills and he mentions this in a couple of verses. something I enjoyed in this song was the fast flow and aggressive nature of the song. My Favorite line is “I’m a young CEO, Suge (Yeah) Yeah, yeah”, this means he’s in control of himself and he’s working on his own business that is music. This shows a bit of accomplishment and expresses how proud he is of how he has already made it this far.
“BOP” was another Blockbuster hit released in 2019. This song helped DaBaby set his name in stone the rap culture. In this song, he talks about how he got a lot of money off of “Suge” and how he’s being intelligent with how he spends his money. My favorite line on the song is “Tryna figure which deal I’ma take (Uh-huh) I woke up, couple mil’ on my plate (Let’s eat) I’m investing in real and estate (Uh-huh)” This line is talking about which deal he’s going to take what record company is going to be in his best interest, he also states in this line that he’s investing in real estate which shows a lot of intelligence because she has a backup plan if rap doesn’t work anymore.
“Goin Baby” Is a song Where DaBaby raps about himself and how other rappers or other people in general, are fake. He’s talking about how he’s not and how he’s real not only to other people but also to himself, knowing that everything is going to come to an end. My favorite verse on the song is “Probably told you I’m lit, come get you a sniff I’m pure like cocaine in the ’80s” This verse re-states what I said about how he’s pure or real. This means a lot especially after making all that money still staying true to your roots and remembering where you came from as well as giving back means a lot and shows what kind of a person you are.
In “VIBEZ”, DaBaby Talks about how he can see through people and is more cognizant of the situations he has been in or will be in. He’s also scared and I feel like that’s what makes you more aware is when something is scary. My favorite verse on the song is “And no, a n**** not blind (Uh-uh) But I keep the stick and I’m firin’.” In this verse, he talks about being aware of the danger around him, but now he’s also scared and now he has to carry a gun just to feel safe.
