AstroWorld
October 18, 2020
AstroWorld released in 2018 by Travis Scott is one of my favorite albums to date. Here are some of the songs on the album and why I like them:
“Stop trying to be God” featuring Stevie Wonder Kid Cudi James Blake and Philip Bailey.
This song is about remembering where you came from and not getting too cocky and having a “God complex.” I connect to this song because it reminds me not to get too cocky because, I know sometimes I can be overly confident but this song kind of lands my plane to a point knowing that too much confidence can hurt you.
“Coffee Bean”
This song talks about his relationship with his, at the time, girlfriend Kylie Jenner. He discusses a lot of the hate he got from the relationship. This song is one of the most personal, putting a lot of details and inner fears and insecurities into this song revealing a lot about himself, which to me seems scary especially being in a relationship that was considered controversial in my little group. Even knowing that the repercussions would have little to no effect.
“Butterfly Effect”
This song refers to the concept that a small thing can have huge effects. Travis is also hitting two birds with one stone when he’s using a butterfly referring to the doors on his Lamborghini. This song makes a lot of sense to me and I listen to it when I think it’s something that is irrelevant means nothing, but then I listen to this and I remember that little things can have big effects on your life. For example, I started throwing the football with my dad when I was 2 years old and now I’m exceeding at football as a freshman. That little decision my dad made to throw the football with me had a huge effect on my life.
“Sicko Mode”
Sicko mode refers to Travis’s and Drake’s work dedication showing that they’re above the competition and better than any other rapper. I connect to this song because I feel like I show that I have a lot of dedication to get things done that I enjoy and I won’t give up. Even if I’m feeling discouraged, I’ll try to push through.
“No Standards” featuring juice world and Sheck Wes
The song is about Travis doesn’t want his crowd to stand around anymore; He wants his fans to bring the rage. Rage means to Travis having a good feeling or having fun. I listen to this song when I need to “turn things up,” to lose myself and go crazy for a while and just have fun and not pay attention or care about what anyone thinks.
For all these songs this is why AstroWorld is still one of my favorite albums of all time going from a God complex to showing a vulnerable side of Travis Scott.
