Quarantine Kitchen
May 18, 2020
During these hard times, comfort is all anyone really wants. Possibly a comforting hug from a friend, loved ones, a nice cup of hot cocoa, a blanket, and a book to cozy up to and escape one reality to another. Everyone has some version of comfort and something to escape reality. However, for those that are looking for something different or something else to do to get your mind off of stressful ideas, cooking and baking can be such a fun hobby and most of the time there is a recipe that you can find that you most likely have ingredients for.
As for me I have been baking and cooking dinner for my family a lot since the quarantine began. From blueberry muffins that looked awfully weird, however, had an amazing taste, to some delicious Kung Pao Spaghetti. However, I would like to make an honorable mention to a very popular quarantine drink that has become a popular drink to make called Whipped Coffee (Dalgona Coffee). This drink may look easy, but if not done with the proper ingredients or tools you can get either a mixed result or it can take ages to mix and leave you with a really sore arm.
To make Whipped Coffee (Dalgona Coffee) you’re gonna need in instant coffee, sugar, and boiled water. Then you’re gonna want to mix one tablespoon of each thing (which can be easily tripled or doubled) to make at least one serving in a bowl. I recommend using an electric mixer of some kind because this can be a process and it can make mixing go faster from my own personal experience. At first, the coffee is gonna look like regular instant coffee, dark and liquidy, however, as you continue mixing it at a fast speed you’re gonna notice that it begins to thicken and become more light and fluffy and change from that dark color to a light brown. As you notice this difference you should keep mixing until the mixture becomes lighter in color, creamy, and frothy. Also when you lift your whisk you should see peaks form on it.
The final step is really simple and only requires from you iced or warmed milk, and or if you don’t want to use milk, iced or warmed water. You then mix the mixture into the cup of milk or water and keep mixing until it is at a suitable consistency to your liking. Whipped Coffee is really delicious, easy to make and something fun to do while we’re all stuck at home. So I hope all of you who love to cook and bake try out this recipe and see what mistakes can be made. You can find how much fun cooking and baking can be with your family and even how much fun it can be to see the result of errors you’ve done and yet still have the food come out amazing! Just a little wonky…
