Ashton D. Simmonds, known more commonly by his stage name “Daniel Caesar”, is a 24-year-old R&B singer from Canada that has been rising these past couple of years.
Daniel Caesar creates very emotional yet very calm music. It usually has to do with ideas of love, love that isn’t reciprocated, or religion. His songs have very meaningful lyrics that he writes expressing what he is truly feeling or thinking. He says that when he released his debut album “Freudian” it made him feel like he was revealing his actual thoughts and feelings to the world. He also mentioned in an interview that it made him feel like he was in therapy because he was expressing what was on his mind. When you listen to his music it gives a very calm and nice feeling which is something that he tries to do.
Daniel Caesar had released a couple of EP albums before his official debut album in 2017, and a couple years later he dropped his second album “Case Study 01”. He put out his first EP album called “Praise Break” in 2014, this album had topics such as love, unrequited love, and religion. One year later, on November 12, 2015, he released his second EP album called “Pilgrim’s Paradise”. In an interview, he mentioned that “Pilgrim’s Paradise” was a continuation of his previous EP “Praise Break”, and still had to do with the topics about relationships, his desires, aspirations, and his self-worth. 2017 was when Caesar officially released his first album called “Freudian”. “Freudian” was the push that he needed. It became very popular, especially for the songs “Get You” and “Best Part”. “Freudian” had to do with the most complex feelings and thoughts he’s had. During this summer on June 28th, 2019, he released his second album, “Case Study 01”. “Case Study 01” didn’t get as much recognition as “Freudian”. The album also had to do with sensitive and touchy subjects, which people who listen to his music have noticed as commonplace.
His top songs that have gotten a large amount of recognition include “Best Part” featuring H.E.R., “Get You” featuring Kali Uchis, “Japanese Denim”, “We find love”,
“Who Hurt You?”, “Streetcar”, “Blessed” and “Hold Me Down”. All of these tracks lead him to start rising higher and become more successful in the music industry. Caesar even had his songs “Get You” and “Love Again” nominated for Best R&B Performance. His album “Freudian” was also nominated for best R&B album. In February of 2019, Daniel Caesar won his first Grammy award for “Best Part” being the best R&B performance.
As for now, Daniel Caesar hasn’t mentioned much about releasing music. Since the release of his EP albums he’s been on the rise. With the amount of success he’s been gaining throughout these years Daniel Caesar is capable of being on the top of music charts.
