KanYAY or No Way
November 14, 2019
Kanye West recently released a new album called “Jesus Is King” there has been major controversy on this new release because of the uncommon genre that Kanye usually delivers to his audience. Kanye has been telling our audience that he is on a new journey within his musical influence. Kanye is bringing light onto the newfound aspect of soul and Christian music vibing together. The blending of a gospel and soul rap has brought up questions regarding the genuineness and realisticness of the rapper’s release. Kanye’s album “Jesus Is King” is full of eye-opening set of songs touching on a very gospel sound. The audience is for it. There is so much love going towards this album. It originally was supposed to be out sooner, but Kanye believed that this needed to be a very well thought out piece of work. Music is untouchable art. This is the way “Jesus Is King” is hitting the industry right now, and personally, my church has been playing his new release at our youth nights. The influence Kanye has had on his audience is so indescribable, so I think that when he was making and producing “Jesus Is King” he was looking at things from a business type of view. That’s where the controversy stems from. It’s the gospel and “church-like” song creators that are taking offense to his album. “Jesus Is King” is a huge step in the possibly right direction for Kanye because in interviews he’s been in recently he’s been said to be mocking the spiritual aspect of the songs, which is all of them to be fair. Kanye also claims this new release is based on a journey he is on with discovery a newfound love and appreciation for Christianity and the gospel soul music that the genre provides. The acceptance of this album I feel like it’s going to take a while because others are pretty stand-offish with him because of his previous music genre, where he has satanic tendencies and vulgarity. The Christian gospel isn’t fond of the vulgar, degrading and satanic worship Kanye has provided his audience in the past, which is where the concern stems from also. It’s the huge change he did with the genre he’s now exploring people are wondering if it’s just a phase he’s feeling this month, or if he’s genuine about the change of sound. With his recent funding and development of his iconic headline posting of his “ Sunday Service”, some do feel his outreach into the Christian gospel does circulate a positive outlook. Kanye’s album is just very different and some people recognize change with open arms and some do not, some viewers want old YE back, some are embracing the newfound Kanye sound, and are playing the “Jesus Is King” album on repeat. For those that are very concerned with his intentions regarding the new songs, there is no telling what is going to happen with this, but right now it’s blowing up. As the saying goes, press is press, doesn’t matter what type. People are talking and sharing whether it’s negative or uplifting, his music is circulating, it’s up to you if you want to join in the “Sunday Service” or stay back and watch.
