Why is ASMR so Intriguing?
December 24, 2018
Asmr… (autonomous sensory meridian response) many people have strong opinions on this topic. But why in the world is chewing and making weird sounds in a microphone so relaxing?! It turns out that asmr is supposed to give you a tingly feeling on your scalp and brain. The tingly feeling moves down your neck and spine. Um is this good for you? Studies suggest, that ASMR Could Have Health Benefits!. Dr. Judy Ho explains that people believe that ASMR helps to promote a feeling of relaxation… Spirit (a youtuber) says ASMR helped to ease her anxiety.
Let’s talk about the kind of weird gadgets people use to make people have these so-called “tingles” and ease your anxiety. I found that the most frequently used triggers were whispering, personal attention, crisp sounds like tapping fingers, slow movements, and repetitive movements. Why do people enjoy this? The whole point of ASMR is to relax you. Believe it or not, it’s big business, especially on the internet. If you look up ASMR on youtube many search results come in, sometimes including, role play (acting with surround sound), people giving you an imaginary massage, and the best of all eating live squid! Now I’m a thoughtful person and seeing live squid getting eaten alive, I can’t help but squirm in my seat! Other people don’t eat live things just for ASMR, people eat things like seaweed and pickles. People call Spirit Payton the pickle lady because she munches on pickles directly into a microphone to create soothing videos that trigger ASMR. She only found relief after listening to ASMR, she wanted to help other people with the same eating sounds that help her. There are many different types of asmr and one of them is to help you sleep, as a result, it can trigger a feeling of relaxation before bedtime, which can help you overcome insomnia. If you’re looking for some time to just relax then ASMR might be just for you.
