Halloween Time
Halloween is just around the corner. It’s time for spooky classics! Great childhood memories of Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town, Beetlejuice, and even Casper brings me back to great times with family and friends. Let’s fly into my favorite season of movies:
Hocus Pocus
This Halloween movie has been in my life every October since I can remember. Definitely one of my personal favorites.
Many moral codes of the mythical world are explained by Max and his younger sister Dani’s journey trying to escape the 3 witches. These witches are based in Salem and are known as the Sanderson sisters.
They resurrect 300 years later on Halloween and cause a lot of chaos within the town, all trying to bring a witch back. My favorite character is a special black cat named Thackery who was cursed into being a cat by those witches. He was supposed to guard the witches against being resurrected. A must watch for Halloween.
The characters in this movie have amazing actors and they play their parts very well. The young actress; Thora Birch who plays Dani won “best young actress under 9 years old” for this movie.
Casper
I remember watching this one more when I was a younger child and slowly getting out of the cute ghost stories and into the more scarier movies. This movie is a great introduction to the younger view. Not my personal Halloween favorite, but definitely gives children a good spooky imagination and compassion towards otherworldly beings. Casper has been a top movie for a good generation.
Beetlejuice
This is the Halloween movie that gets you ready for the actual horror movies. Tim Burton knows how to direct let me tell you! Definitely a child thriller and a growing up experience! I loved this movie and have at least watched it 20 times. When I first saw this movie my life was turned upside down. Having that type of imagination at a young age is crazy and awesome at the same time. Believing that there are other dimensions and beings was great. I mean I still kinda do.
Okay so if you haven’t seen this that’s crazy! Let me run you down on the plot. It starts with a cute couple; Barbara and Adam. They were on their way back home and got into a car accident. When they got home they were confused on how they even got there. They finally realized that they were dead and didn’t make the crash.
The new owners of the house have a daughter; Lydia and she can see them and try a seance, but accidentally summons Beetlejuice instead. His price for help is marriage so he can play with the mortal world. Barbara steps in to solve things and does, there’s a happy ending.
If you say his name 3 times he’ll come!

Halloweentown Series
Leaving the best for last
Halloweentown is the pure definition of an amazing Halloween. Learning that you’re a witch, Oh Heck Yes!
I really wished when I was a kid I would have learned I was a witch on my 13th birthday. My Grandma would have shown me, taught me the basics of my powers and how to use them. What a wish right?
I have visited Saint Helens, OR and have seen where they’ve filmed Miss Marnie. I’m the most passionate about this Halloween movie series. My favorite out of the 3 is the 2nd one; Halloweentown High. I love the original actor more than the replacement for Marnie in the 3rd movie. They’re both great actress, but the original is better. The 3rd just almost feels like a different movie. You have to at least watch 1 and 2.
This movie starts out with Marnie’s 13th Birthday and her Grandma coming to visit. Marnie’s Mother is pretty wary about the visit because she doesn’t want her daughter’s powers to be brought out yet. However, her Mother doesn’t really care because this is witch tradition. I really love the family bond in this movie. The siblings love each other, look out for each other, and truly care.
Danica is a senior at Forest Grove High School and a writer for arts and entertainment. She is 18 and her sign is a triple Libra. She believes in equality...
