Four of the Many Styles of Art
There are many styles of art, many don’t know of, and I’d like to help you out to realize the art all around us. Whenever art is a topic in a conversation, most think of drawing and painting, yet there’s so much more than just that, some examples would be digital art, drawing, graphic design, photography, printmaking and more. To get you realizing these kinds of art, I’ll help out by explaining them as best as I can.
Drawing is a skill everyone has, same goes for painting. Basically, every kind of art is something everyone is capable of doing, so if you’re interested in some of the arts, try them out. Anyways, drawing. Drawing should be known by everyone but if not, drawing is basically a form of visual art drawn on a piece of paper or anything else really, the only tools needed are just pencils, colored pencils, ink, markers, pastels, or even chalk and anything you can draw on. Let your mind go free in your time with art, it helps a lot.
Drawing is somewhat the first stage to becoming an artist, and as art is somewhat of a game, drawing could be the first level and you develop better skills the more you go through the game. Next is level two, painting.
Painting is simple to explain, it is simply known as the practice of applying paint. What is paint? Pigment. What is pigment? Color. You use the material for your piece, and when finished it’s called a painting. To explain in short, think of the Mona Lisa or of The Last Supper, those are paintings.
Things get just a tad bit harder after the art of painting, there’s an art many don’t know of. It’s called printmaking, and it’s somewhat simple but complicated to explain. Printmaking has many different techniques and styles, commonly used on paper. But certain styles like woodcut, engraving, etching, mezzotint, aquatint, drypoint, and many other styles have many differences in materials. So if attempted by a person, all you really need is a style of art and the right materials. Essentially printmaking involves your designs and can give you the ability to print the design on specially prepared plates or blocks.
Then comes graphic design, it’s fun, simple, and creative. Graphic design is the art of using symbols or words in any way you’d like. For example, the Nike logo, and the Adidas logo are both examples of graphic design. And graphic design doesn’t necessarily need to be a logo, it can be a sentence too, similar to calligraphy but just a tad bit different. You may remember the saying “Got Milk?” or “Just Do It”, these short sentences are works of graphic design.
We must keep in mind that there is much more to do than just these four, I suggest researching what you may think is interesting. You may just surprise yourself with the creativity you have.
