Ms. McCune Teacher Profile
Ms.McCune is an English teacher who used to teach at Park Middle School in Antioch, CA and then in Santa Cruz, CA. It is now her third year teaching 9th and 10th grade honors English at Forest Grove High School. In 7th grade, she decided to be an English teacher. She was always intrigued by it since her dad, aunt, and grandmother were all teachers. Ms. McCune loves reading and writing, so she decided to be an English high school teacher since she thinks she “can build our relationships with and understandings of each other.” That really caught the eye of Ms.McCune and she really wanted to help her students develop those skills.
The best part of being an English teacher in her opinion is “the students” — she really loves having interesting conversations on what the students find interesting with reading and writing and loves to be able to see the growth in students writing. Ms. McCune also stated that she loves watching them have an ah-ha! the moment.” She really feels accomplished when she sees the growth in students.
The best advice that Ms. McCune wants to give her students is “to make good choices. Find your happy and do it as much as possible. Do the things necessary now to give you many options career-wise after high school.” This advice should be taken seriously because the more you can do now, the more success that may come your way later.
Ms. McCune enjoys going to concerts, reading, going to the movies, and spending time with her friends. She uses her free time to all the things she feels like doing because she’ll only live each day once and won’t be able to do it later on. Encourage yourself to try new things like Ms. McCune does every day of her life.
The thing that Ms. McCune focuses on every day is to “Be a good friend, daughter, sister, and aunt.” She really wants to be a better teacher than yesterday to help her students succeed and be kind every step of the way.
Ms. McCune really isn’t a fan of spiders– she prefers to appreciate them from a distance. Her greatest fear is to “lose people, both through death and through the challenges of time and distance.”
If you ever have the chance of being in her class, you’ll find it a full 90 minutes of laughter and a great learning environment. If you ever have the chance of seeing her, either in her class or in the halls, say hi – she’s truly friendly and a great teacher to have around.
