The Portland Thorns FC is a women’s professional soccer team based in Portland, Oregon.
They compete in the national women’s soccer league. The Thorns were founded in 2012, but began to play in 2013. Their home game in 2013 against Seattle Reign, FC set a new single-game attendance record for the women’s professional soccer league of 16,479 fans in the stands, establishing the team as a leader in fan support for women’s soccer. The fans of the Portland Thorns are called the Rose City Riveters, and the fans are known for creating a passionate yet exciting atmosphere at Providence Park.

Sophia Wilson #9 was nominated for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team 2024 player of the year. She was a key player and starter. She didn’t go to college, she signed on to the thorns at fifteen, now she is twenty. Hina Sugita #8 is a midfielder and a fan favorite. Her 2025 stats are fifteen games, two goals, 541 passes, three assists, and 33 tackles with three shots on target.
The Portland Thorns are the first NWSL team to win the championships three times. They are known for winning those championships in 2012, 2013, and 2022. The team is well-known for its crowds, enthusiastic fanbase, and game record-setting attendance. The spirit at Provence Park and the games that are held there, like the Timbers and Portland Thorns, are never quiet. Winning is everything for these teams to the point where fans wear scarves in support that say, “NO PITY!” The Rose City Riveters will always shout chants throughout the match to show their unyielding loyalty, “Score a goal. Rose City. Soccer city.” At the Thorns games, most of the fans sing the chant called guillotine, “Hey you! We got the ball, we’re at your gates, we’re at your door, we’re at your door, we’ve got the A team, you got the B team, you better run.”
