The Bend Film Festival in Bend, Oregon takes place in October, where independent filmmakers come together to showcase their work. Along with the various types of film shown, there will also be mentor sessions and discussions with the filmmakers during the festival. Several awards go out to the showcase winners, such as Best Narrative Feature: a $2,500 cash prize, Best Documentary Feature: a $2,500 cash prize, Best Environmental/Outdoor Feature: a $1,000 cash prize, and many more. You can also apply to have your film or short shown at the festival. Some of these films have gone on to be recognized and even win Oscars. On top of all of this, there is also a festival kick-off party & fundraiser.
- Rock the Locks Music Festival
Rock the Locks is a 3-day celebration of music, food, and fun. With more than 20 bands of all genres and generations, including notable acts such as Stone Temple Pilots, Barenaked Ladies, Halestorm, Corey Marks, and many more. The events take place on two stages and offer a campground for tents and RV’s, lawn games, merchandise, and food.
- Silver Falls State Park
Silver Falls State Park is one of Oregon’s most beautiful hikes and even more magical in autumn. One of the most special things about Silver Falls State Park is its amazing waterfalls. With 10 waterfalls, including a 177-foot waterfall you can walk behind, Silver Falls State Park is home to a nationally recognized hiking trail that passes through rocky canyons, forests, and a winding creek. This hike is a 7.2-mile loop and has an elevation change of 800 feet. With its maple and alder trees making beautiful scenery, along with daytime outdoor activities, this hike makes for the perfect fall activity.
- Halloween Train
The haunted “Phantom of the Rail” train ride located in Mount Hood, Oregon is a 2.5-hour train ride full of Halloween narration, ghosts, jumpscares, and trails through dark forests and an old abandoned factory. The ride also has a special spooky flash mob dance performance, as well as food and drinks while you enjoy it. This train ride takes place the last two Fridays and Saturdays of October from 4:30- 7:30 pm and is recommended for ages 13 and up. With tables of four on the train, find your three bravest friends and enjoy the ride. The Mout Hood Railway also offers a Harvest Train in the fall and a Christmas train in winter.
