Presidents’ day was something that had begun due to George Washington’s birthday. Later on, they made it a holiday to honor the U.S presidents. Presidents’ day was officially established in 1885 and is known more for being George Washington’s birthday. Many people celebrate it and some really have much respects for our past presidents and that’s why even schools take Presidents’ Day off.

Presidents day is all about honoring the presidents and so many people decide to pay their respects and celebrate Presidents’ Day, even though it’s federally known as “Washington’s birthday.” Many of our past presidents did many things that continue to help to this day. For example, Abraham Lincoln was the president at the time that slavery was a thing and he abolished slavery with the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln was an important factor to abolish slavery and helped move the country in a direction that didn’t use slavery. So, because of this, many pay their respect by celebrating Presidents’ Day. Franklin Roosevelt was also an important president and got the country out of the Great Depression and made the economy stable. Many other presidents have contributed to making this country a safer and better place as many did many things that still impact us to this day and it is reflected on Presidents’ Day.

Many have a different view on Presidents’ Day. Not every state celebrates it, but there are around 30-40 states that celebrate it as “Presidents’ Day” or “Washington’s birthday.” Other states either don’t celebrate or just celebrate it as “Washington’s Birthday.” For many, celebrating Presidents’ Day is fun. The states that celebrate Presidents’ Day tend to either get the day off of work or get no school to honor Washington and Lincoln’s birthdays. Lincoln and Washington’s birthdays are very close to February 18th, since they’re the 22nd and 12th of February. This is the reason most people would call it “Washington’s birthday” instead of “Presidents’ Day” due to the fact that Washington was the 1st president of our country.

Presidents’ Day is the day people get off to celebrate with family or friends how much our past presidents have achieved and made our nation a better place. Many won’t choose to celebrate it and it’s acceptable since everyone has the right to choose what to celebrate. Everyone always feels happy when Presidents’ Day comes around since it means no school and no work. Some people, however, actually pay their respects to how much our past presidents have done for us. Everything our past presidents have done has made our lives less complicated and gives us a day off to celebrate with family and have a good day of reflection towards our past presidents.
